The hospital has close links with both the University School and the Regional Maxillofacial Unit. These posts are suitable for applicants with specialist registration or for those wishing to develop skills in this field. The successful candidates will gain wide experience in Oral Surgery. Applicants will be required to have full registration with the General Council, have passed all parts of FDS or MFDS examinations and should be a minimum of 4 years post graduation with a minimum of 2 years full time experience in Oral Surgery. Specialty Dentist in Oral Surgery.0 WTE & 0.8 WTE 2 posts. and the Surrounding Area, with a population of around 740,000 is Scotland s largest city, and on of Europe s liveliest with a varied and colourful social and cultural life which can cater for every taste. is a city of contrasts; the bustle of a major commercial and business centre, the greenery of parks and gardens, and a wealth of art galleries, museums, cinemas and theatres. Newcomers quickly feel at home in this vibrant and friendly city. Of particular note is the University s Hunterian Museum which is the oldest public museum in Scotland. The Hunterian Art Gallery has important are collections and contains a reconstruction of Charles Rennie Mackintosh s own house. has an extensive road and rail public transport system with one of the largest commuter rail networks outside London and its own underground railway, the subway, which serves the University and the centre of the city. 2. Oral Health Directorate NHS Greater & Clyde introduced single NHS system working on st April 2006 and is the largest Health Board in Scotland. The Oral Health Directorate has recently become part of East Dunbartonshire CHP. The Oral Health Directorate includes the which has close working links with the University of School, The University of and the Regional Maxillofacial Unit at the Southern General. The Directorate also has responsibility for Community Salaried Services and General Services with an annual budget of some 00 million. Other Directorate responsibilities include: - Public Health - Oral Health Improvement - Acute Orthodontics 3. The and School and School is situated in the centre of. It is the main centre for specialist dental advice and treatment within the NHS Greater and Clyde Health Board area. It also fulfils a similar role for surrounding Health Boards and serves a population of up to 3,000,000. The total number of chairs within the hospital is approximately 60. It is an undergraduate dental teaching school and has an adjoining Postgraduate Centre. There are strong links with the University of and other hospitals in the region and it has an excellent library with on-line literature search facilities. and School comprises the following clinical departments: Restorative Dentistry - fixed and removable prosthodontics - endodontics - periodontology Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Paediatric Dentistry 4

The Department of Oral Surgery The Department of Oral Surgery is situated on Levels 3 and 4 of the. There is a consultant clinic on Level 3 which is shared with Oral Medicine and contains a total of 9 chairs. In the Treatment area on level 4 a variety of dentoalveolar procedures are carried out under local anaesthesia. Minor Oral Surgery is carried out under both local anaesthesia and sedation in the Theatre facility on level 4; there are three chairs in this facility. The Sedation Suite on level 7 is also used for some minor oral surgery. 5. The Post There are 2 posts available. One post would be full time while the other would be for 8 sessions per week. The post holders will contribute to all aspects of the clinical activity of the Oral Surgery Department including provision of treatment under sedation. The post holders would be expected to function largely independently. 2 sessions of one of the posts would be allocated to Oral Medicine. The post holder should have been qualified in dentistry for at least 4 years with 2 years experience in oral surgery and should possess a membership or fellowship from one of the Royal Colleges. 6. Teaching & Research Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is an important component of the department and the holder of this post will be expected to take part in clinical undergraduate teaching and clinical assessment. We have several rotational SHOs and DFTs in the department and the post holder(s) would be involved in all aspects of their training. Research opportunities exist for those interested however research would not form an essential past of these posts. Excellent library facilities are available within and School and the University. 0. al Audit The post holder will be expected to participate and contribute to al Audit Programme. Regular audit meetings are held within the and School; these are an essential component of al Governance.. Timetable The post (s) can be either undertaken as one 0 session job (with 9 clinical sessions) and one 8 session job (with 7 clinical sessions) or can be split to allow more flexible working. 2 sessions of one post will be in Oral Medicine. There is no on call or out of hours commitment associated with this post. 2. Other Duties The post holder will be asked to assist in undergraduate teaching and or continuing education according to experience. The post holder may be expected to deputise for absent colleagues. 6
3. Administration Administrative duties include those which are associated with the care of patients and the running of the department. The Consultants work co-operatively with the Directorate Management in the efficient running of services and the post holder will be expected to share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility of advising the management on clinical matters.
