The focus of the Mordente Memorial Keynote lecture this year is AUA Bladder Cancer Guidelines 2017: What Clinicians Should Really Know. Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy involving the urinary system and the ninth most common malignancy worldwide. In the United States, about 79,000 new cases are found and 17,000 deaths occur each year due to bladder cancer. The 6th Annual Dr. John Mordente Memorial Lecture includes a Resident Abstract Competition. Residents and medical students at all levels in US accredited training programs may submit abstracts describing their research in the field of Urologic Health. The top three abstract winners will present their work to the conference attendees for a cash prize (more info at http://winthropcmeplanning.org/mordente). SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW This year, our invited speaker is Sam S. Chang, MD, MBA, the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Urologic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Chang currently chairs the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) GU Staging Task force and is a member of the U.S. Committee on Cancer. Dr. Chang has authored more than 200 original publications. For his academic efforts, he received the SUO s first-ever Distinguished Service Award, the CaPCURE Young Investigator Award, and was named a Journal of Urology s Best Reviewer. Dr. Chang was recently named as the 2011 recipient of the prestigious American Urological Association Gold Cystoscope Award. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1.
