October 2018 SAVE THE DATE...IT'S BACK!! We are absolutely delighted to announce that our Wear Red for Wales and Velindre campaign will take place on Friday 1 February 2019, the day Wales take on France in their first Six Nations clash. The 2018 Wear Red campaign was a huge success with hundreds of schools, businesses, individuals and even pets across Wales s getting involved painting Wales red and raising over 70,000. Next year we want to go bigger and better and we need your help! Getting involved couldn t be easier just wear something anything red on Friday 1st February and donate a minimum of 1 to Velindre on the day of Wales first Six Nations game against France at the Stade de France. For this day only Velindre will change from our traditional green to red in support of the Welsh rugby team.
Registrations for Wear Red will open online on 1st November and once registered we will supply you with a special Wear Red Pack filled with fundraising ideas. You can also show your support by purchasing an exclusive 2019 Wear Red For Wales And Velindre t-shirt, wristband or mug. PLEASE HELP US PAINT WALES RED AND RAISE VITAL FUNDS FOR CANCER PATIENTS IN WALES! THE POWER OF FACEBOOK!! We all know how powerful social media and Facebook in particular can be, but recently we have been completely staggered by the amount of money people have raised for Velindre using the donate tool on Facebook. Since April this year, over 29,000 has been raised for Velindre from many supporters asking for donations on their birthdays, other special occasions or from events. Thank you Facebook Friends!
EPIC WEST COAST BIKE RIDES RAISE OVER 600,000! 92 people including our President Jonathan Davies and Patrons Martyn Williams and Shane Williams, cycled a very challenging 600km from San Francisco to Los Angeles last month raising over 600,000 for Specialist Nurses at Velindre. Velindre Specialist Cancer Nurse Annie Jones, pictured below left, took part in the first ride and said after it: "What an achievement! I still can t believe I did it! When I was asked if I would do this challenge I chuckled to myself and then when I found out exactly what it entailed I had an even bigger chuckle and my rear end started to hurt just thinking about it! But, to be honest there was really nothing to think about, as raising funds for Velindre is close to my heart and knowing that all the funds raised from this challenge is going to the Leading Lights Appeal supporting Specialist Cancer Nurses at Velindre, saying no was not an option. As a Cancer Nurse Specialist I get to spend valuable time with patients, their family and friends who are going through the most difficult time of their lives. My job is funded by Velindre Fundraising and I personally get to see the difference fundraising makes - and it really is making a huge difference." Another amazing lady to take part in the 2 nd ride was Rhian Davies, pictured right. Rhian overcame lots of personal challenges to enter and complete this ride. Read her very inspiring story here.

VELINDRE FUND EXCITING HEALTH & CANCER AWARENESS PROJECT Velindre Cancer Centre, in partnership with Cardiff and Vale College, has launched the UK s first Health and Cancer Awareness Resource for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. Funded by Velindre Fundraising, the ESOL+ Health and Cancer Awareness Resource is a series of educational tools for BAME communities which are incorporated into ESOL classes. The resource has been produced by a working group comprising CAVC, Public Health Wales and Velindre Cancer Centre. The resource aims to address health inequalities among BAME communities in Wales by raising awareness of health matters including healthy eating, cancer prevention and the range of health services available. This is a great example of different organisations working together to ensure everyone in Wales has a fair opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Click here to read the full story.
