Official Newsletter of the FMCA CHAPTER: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY 1st Quarter, 2015 Editor --- Marion Braum Presidents Column February, 2015 Well, I was sitting here on the sofa, doing nothing but allowing my body to recover from pneumonia. And I thought, This is not accomplishing anything. Why don t I go out and build a house somewhere? I don t always think things all the way through before I act on them, but this time I considered a few thoughts before springing into action. First, we are not free, yet, from the church we are serving as interim pastor. We are still progressing on that front, but no cigar yet. Second, I am pretty sure my doctor would not list house-building as an approved pneumonia-recovery activity. Third, the outside temperature in Masontown, PA is hanging around 0 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chill somewhere around -10. Fourth, most of the roads, between here and any place I would want to be building a house right now, are both icy and salty: not conducive to driving around in one s house. So, I thought, Maybe I should, for the moment, just write to my house-building friends. That is what prompts this letter from me. Hopefully, we can get some input from others sectors as well. But there are a couple of thing on my mind that I want to kick around with you. First, who is going to Pomona? We are planning our annual, winter meeting. I am remembering how lonely it was in Redmond when I discovered that most of you were not there. And, since you were not there, we did not have a quorum for our Chapter Meeting. Without a quorum we could not hold an election. Consequently, we are working with extended-term officers. And, by the way, if you have a burning desire to fill one of those offices, let us know and we can tell the nominating committee. Second, can we plan on your help manning the chapter table in the Information Center? I find it exhilarating, visiting with people who are interested in learning about what we do, I encourage you to participate in that fun time. And it is always fun reminiscing with our members. Finally, what about Madison? Will you be there? Will you be wanting to be part of a build there? I look forward to seeing you, and building together. If you could, it might be helpful if you could let me or Fred know where you would like to see building opportunities developed. With that kind of information we could begin to attempt to target specific opportunities. As always: be safe and we ll see you down the road. In Partnership, Alan Schmiedt
