Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Top Teens of America SISTERS NETWORK, INC. Founded in 1994 by Karen Jackson, Sisters Network Inc. is a leading voice and the only national African American breast cancer survivorship organization in the United States. At the core of Sisters Network mission is support, outreach and education. During 2012, Sisters breast health outreach initiatives impacted an estimated 3.7 million families. The organization s purpose is to save lives and provide a broader scope of knowledge that addresses the breast cancer survivorship crisis affecting African American women around the country. The organization s national slogan, STOP THE SILENCE, speaks directly to the African American community and its long-standing history of not discussing cancer and other life-threatening health concerns. The Maryland Affiliate Chapter of Sister Network is located in Prince George s County. The need for additional services in the county is great because breast cancer deaths in Maryland are among the highest in the nation. Cancer patients and survivors have requested gifts cards of value from $10.00 and up from an array of national retailers to be distributed to those who are undergoing or have completed treatment. Each Top Lady in Area II whether attending the conference or not is asked to donate a $10 or more gift card from a retailer of your choice. The entire Board of Directors for Sister Network Inc. in Prince George s County plans to attend our Community Night on October 31 st. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It would be a tremendous blessing to the cancer patients and survivors when we present a gift basket full of gift cards reflecting the love and support from the more than 200 committed Top Ladies of Area II. Thank-You! Please have your Chapter s Status of Women Chair engaged in this effort by coordinating the collection of the donated gift cards and she or her designee will bring the donations to the conference. Gift cards will be collected at registration. Lady Alisha Cross, Area II Status of Women Chair, will give a full report of the Sister Network community outreach project during the plenary session. For additional information, please contact Lady Kym Elder, Community Outreach Chair, at 202-805-0742 or email kymmi_elder@verizon.net.
