Kitchen VFW Post 7788 Auxiliary was chartered in 1946, and has been a big part of Post 7788 since it was formed. Over the years, faces have changed, but our mission has always been Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes. In the past two years, bylaw changes instituted by the National VFW and Auxiliary have affected us all, opening up our membership to male relatives of eligible veterans. With the disbandment of all Men's Auxiliaries nationwide on December 31st, an opportunity to increase our membership by welcoming their members into our Auxiliary was exciting. We welcome them into the Auxiliary and look forward to working with them in all the projects and programs sponsored by the VFW. As always, we support our VFW Post and Commander Razzaia in all the work they do for our veterans. Why join the VFW Auxiliary? Membership benefits are many, and you will have the opportunity to: - Support Veterans, Active Duty Miliary and their Families. The VFW Auxiliary offers numerous avenues for service, such as hospital volunteering, adoption of military units and promoting patriotism. Our 7788 Auxiliary makes monthly visits to the West Haven VA, playing bingo with patients in the blind unit, sharing snacks and fellowship, bringing a little joy for a few hours each month. We have also adopted the 103 rd Air Control Squadron based in Orange, CT. During their last two deployments, we have sent numerous packages, letters and cards, most recently this past Christmas. Letting the service men and women know we care is so important to them when they are thousands of miles from home. - Develop new skills. The Auxiliary offers many ways for members to acquire and utilize skills such as leadership, public speaking, fundraising and community outreach. As an Auxiliary member, you may be asked to represent the Auxiliary at a school on Veterans Day, or greet guests at our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. These are opportunities to introduce the Auxiliary to the public, and show people who we are and what we do. - Service Benefits. The VFW Auxiliary offers members access to a network of money-saving products and services in the insurance and benefits industry. Discounts on products and services, credit cards, travel are also available. The Auxiliary also offers cancer grants and scholarships to its members. VFW 7788 Auxiliary with its 107 members is a small part of the National VFW Auxiliary with its over 470,000 members in 4,000 auxiliaries nationwide. We are doing our part to improve the lives of our veterans, active military and their families and the community. Our slogan, Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes, continues to define our mission.

** I stopped believing in Santa Claus when my mother took me to see him in a department store, and he asked for my autograph. Shirley Temple ** COMMANDER S MESSAGE Greetings fellow comrades, We face the New Year with some challenges: maintaining our 100% membership, getting new members to join and members who have died. I would ask that if you haven t paid your dues as yet please do so immediately. If your dues are not due yet please, if you can, pay them by March 1 st. This new system that has been put in place by National makes it difficult to maintain our 100% rating as a number of our members come due in May. Another challenge that we face is support of our Post events. Expenses to operate the post have risen over the past two years. I also realize that personal expenses of our members also have risen but I would ask that when these fund raisers are offered that you support them the best that you can. Some of these are: Our Junior Vice Cmder., Frank Figerle is putting together a cookbook. He is asking for some of your favorite recipes to be published. There are template forms in the Canteen that you can use for easy transcription. You may also just drop off a copy of your recipes in the Commander s box at the Canteen. I am also planning a Chicken parm. dinner for late February as well as our Annual St. Patrick s Day Dinner Dance. I know that the smoking is an issue for some of you and I am addressing that. The St. Patrick s Day event will be upstairs where there is no smoking allowed. I am also thinking about closing off the downstairs hall to keep the smoke from the canteen from coming in. Inclosing, I am asking you to pay your dues and support our programs to keep our Post one of the best in the state. Thank you for your support. Yours in comradeship, AUXILIARY NEWS Happy New Year everyone! We are starting off 2017 in great shape we have just reached 105.94% in membership! For the second year in a row, we have achieved 100% before December 31 st. We welcome our new members, most of whom are coming over from the Men's Auxiliary, and thank our continuous members for renewing early. The Auxiliary is looking forward to working with the Men's Auxiliary as we transition to one Auxiliary. We are hopeful our new members will consider taking on some officer positions in the Auxiliary when elections are held this Spring. As with any organization, change is not easy, and there is a period of adjustment learning new ways. However, we have always worked well together as two auxiliaries, and I see no reason why that spirit of cooperation cannot contiinue as we move forward as one auxiliary. Our basic principles are the same; we are here to support our veterans. The Auxiliary will be having a St. Patrick's Day cheer raffle the basket should be on display in the canteen by Valentine's Day and will be raffled off at the St. Patrick's Day dinner dance on March 11 th. The Auxiliary will also be preparing the corned beef and cabbage dinner for the party! Volunteers are welcome to help out in the kitchen and in decorating the hall. District 2 President Betty Fries conducted her inspection on November 8, 2016 and reported our Auxiliary was in full compliance with reporting and record keeping guidelines and is in good order. We look forward to seeing you at one or all of our upcoming events as we continue our Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes. Nancy Paddock, Auxiliary President Joe Razzaia, Commander
