NOVEMBER 2018 NEWLETTER PARKERSBURG COUNTRY CLUB 1902 NEWSLETTER November 2018 FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Tis the Season Of course, I love the hustle and bustle of Summertime here at the Club with golf in full swing, the pool so loud and colorful, clinics and camps for our junior members, and all the activities that go with summer. What s not to love? But my favorite time of year is fall into winter and it s upon us. What I love most right now is the color on the trees, perfect golf and patio weather, and the anticipation of the Holidays coming up. It s a winding down of all the action and a time to reflect on the year behind, and the year ahead; but not before we celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with you and yours. Hold that thought! What doesn t kill us makes us stronger When I reflect on the year so far, the first thing that comes to mind is that it s been a tough one up against Mother Nature. The weather throughout has been dreadful with too much rain right into too much heat which obviously affects the entire operation. The silver lining through it all this year is that all of our Holiday Events were all able to go off without a hitch including Memorial Day, 4 th of July with fireworks, Member/Member, Member/Guest, Labor Day and even our two scheduled Dinners by the River. We made it through! Where did the year go Despite the challenges with the weather, some good events are happening on the P&L. The 2018 Fiscal Year ended on October 31, 2018. As of the latest financials, we are up significantly in dues and restaurant revenue, guest fees, and mark it down, even the lottery proceeds are up! The Staff did a great job minimizing expenses as well so we are sitting pretty compared to last year. We hit the 3-year mark with monthly payments toward all of our 2015 clubhouse and course renovations and we continue to fund capital projects and plan for the future as time and money allow. Rome wasn t built in a day, but it sure is beautiful! Every day can change, and most often does At a weekly staff meeting a few weeks ago, I asked my staff to think about what they feel is the best part of being employed at PCC, and the worst part, and get back to me one-on-one. I also asked them to please be honest, which of course runs the risk of hearing something you might not want to. Luckily, any bad I heard was constructive and meaningful so that we can learn and grow individually and as a team. However, across the board they all said that the Members were the best part of their jobs, at the root of their happiness here, and that Continued on next page

NOVEMBER 2018 NEWLETTER they loved an atmosphere where they are doing something different every day. I will have to agree on this one. Thank you, Members, for being so kind and caring to our staff. They all appreciate it very much!! 2019 at a Glance Multiple members have said they feel a shift at the Club, a new vibe if you will, and I certainly hope that s the case. We are definitely seeing a shift in our membership being more active and engaged at the Club but also with one another. We ve got a great group of kids too and we need to support and nurture them as they are the future members of our club. We ve already met about the WV Open this June, we ve met regarding some new and superb ideas for our Member/Guest Tournament, the budget is final and we ve got our capital items to work toward. Next thing on the list is for you, as a member, to please think about what you feel will enhance your experience as a member, and let me know. All you can do is ask, and all we can do is try. you! As much as you want PCC to be the place to come, we want that for Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas Back to the beginning and my favorite time of year. Before we know it, smells will be wafting through the Clubhouse to signal the holidays, parties will be going on morning, noon and night. Lights will outline the clubhouse and the fireplace will be glowing. We love hosting you, your family, your colleagues and friends. It s a festive time of year meant to say thank you, let us handle the details. So, when you re planning for the Holidays, keep us in mind. Simply call to make a reservation, and leave the rest to us. Even if you plan to dine in the bar, this time of year it helps us plan for staffing and to better accommodate you when we have parties going on all around. In fact, it is always a great idea to make a reservation, especially for special events, so that we can be as efficient as we need to be. We ve got Thanksgiving coming up, the Turkey Open, Brunch with Santa, Cheer Party and New Year s Eve dinner to highlight the annual events. We truly hope to see you as much as we do during the summer, and want to make your experience over the Holidays magical. Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to ALL! Sincerely Kate Swisher, General Manager Welcome New Member Chad Collins
