111 NAWIC MONTGOMERY 267 Issue 2 NAWIC Montgomery Chapter 267 2017-2018 Issue 2 2017-2018 NAWIC Board Installation IN THIS ISSUE A Season of Giving By Lanell Smith Our chapter has long supported the Family Sunshine Center. In years past we have supported the center s work with gifts and donations. During this season of giving, it was only natural that we should seek to help them provide a Merry Christmas to their clients. With the Board s approval, Becky Harris, Chair of our PDE committee and her merry sidekick Gus set out shopping for items on the center s Christmas wish list. Becky and Gus found many great deals, filling laundry baskets with all sorts of toys and household items. Becky and Stacy Young delivered the donations to the center on Tuesday, December 5 th. Our donations were gladly received and will help to make a Merry Christmas for some local families. What a blessing it is to give to others! Serving the community is an important part of what we do in NAWIC. Please submit your ideas for future projects to our PDE Committee. Member Highlight Have you met Stacy Young? NAWIC MONTGOMERY 267 Issue 2 2 Member Highlight: Stacy Young By Sabrina Comer Stacy Young comes to us from Las Vegas, Nevada, and, as our newest member, has found herself subjected to the first Member Spotlight for our 2017-2018 newsletter. Subjected may be a strong word, but she was a great sport and patient with being interrupted for an interview on a busy Friday. Stacy has family in the Montgomery/Wetumpka area, but she was born and raised in Michigan. After a ten-year stint in Vegas, she has moved south, leaving behind the sand and sun for the humidity and mosquitoes of central Alabama. As a project manager for Thor Construction, Stacy is looking to make Alabama her home. She has recently acquired her real estate agent license. Stacy has been happily divorced for 21 years, with a 23-year-old daughter who still lives in Vegas. I asked Stacy nine questions to get to know her a little better, aka The NAWIC Nine (that sounds intimidating), or maybe the 9WIC? Anyway, we are lucky to have such a cool chick amongst us. Read on; my comments are [in italics and brackets] because you know I can t not comment: When s your birthday and how do you like to celebrate it? Do I have to say the year? [Right?!? Absolutely not.] Stacy s birthday is July 30th, and she plans to celebrate the next Big 0 birthday with international travel, perhaps Thailand: a good long trip to have time to truly appreciate the culture. What was your favorite childhood toy/game? Battleship If you had 2 minutes to talk to your 18-year-old self, what would you say to her? Follow your dreams and do something that makes you happy not everyone else. What is your personal goal for the next calendar year? Stacy tells me that she plans to find a direction, professionally, that will help her utilize her purpose. Who is the person that has inspired you the most/the most recently? Stacy tells me that, in seeking her purpose in this life, she has recovered her drive, for herself. [Sage words. Be your own inspiration, ladies.] What would be your ideal friend s night? Game night, cooking school What do you like to do whenever you get the rare opportunity for me time? Music is my therapy. And cooking. [Add eating, and that s my trifecta.] You ve hit the big big lottery. You ve done all the responsible adult stuff paid the tax man, met with the financial planner, paid any debts. Now what? Vacation with my family. [That is so generous. Pretty sure I would ve used a different preposition, like from. ] What would we be surprised to know about you? Stacy rides motorcycles. [I am soooooo jelly.] So a great big NAWIC/Central Alabama welcome to Stacy! We are happy to have you as a member and look forward to fun times ahead.
