Newsletter June 2016 ~ edition no. 7 ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW A HIT! We had a massive response from you for Royal Cornwall Show tickets. We bought 55 tickets for Mid Cornwall members which exceeds by far our best year ever. We did not anticipate this but we are able to cover the subsidy involved and all tickets have been sent out to those members ordering them. The success of our events continues with the shopping trip to Clarks Village in Street which is almost full and the combined trip to Torquay and Newton Abbot races which is full and has a waiting list. We continue to arrange the trips you have asked for and we are now open for bookings for Exeter shopper in November and a London weekend in December. The Exeter shopper always fills and London has proved popular in the past and given the popularity of the current events you are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. Let us have your entries for our Spring in Cornwall photo competition. (This picture of St. Ives is not eligible!) Our trips pick up in Truro and sometimes St. Austell but you can also generally get on in Camborne, so speak to us if that is better for you. We did try to set up a taster day for Segway at Goonhilly using Head Office funding, but this did not prove sufficiently popular and had to be cancelled. We did have some issues here over communication (between ourselves and Head Office) and this meant that we were not able to give you the notice you would normally expect from us. Apologies for that and be sure we have learnt from the experience. 1

Last year we held a walking treasure hunt and we are looking to repeat this. We have a provisional date of September 11, more later. We also held a bingo and games evening in February which we will repeat probably in the autumn. The success of Royal Cornwall tickets will limit our ability to subsidise other events so beyond those stated we are having to be cautious about what else we commit ourselves too. We are also economising by only sending one person to the National Conference and AGM in Birmingham. One person is funded centrally but a second would come from our funds and that saving may even be enough for us to fund another event for you. Next issue will contain a brief note about key issues from the Conference. Last issue we announced our photographic competition on the theme of Spring in Cornwall. We have had some entries but there is still time to send your entries to weetwood@btopenworld.com by June 30. Your committee will judge the winner who will win a 10 prize. Please title your email CSSC photo competition. We will publish the photo and the winner s name in the August issue. The photograph must have been taken by the member submitting it! We are continuing to work with other Areas to host a Golf day, looking ourselves at Zumba sessions and country walks and we are constantly looking for ideas let us know yours! How do you get your newsletter? We send this newsletter to everyone on our email contact list and have it sent out by the CSSC Head Office to all Mid Cornwall members with an e mail. The Head Office dispatch is stripped of pictures in order to keep the file size down, which helps us with work office email rules. If you do not get the newsletter direct from us in Mid Cornwall and if you would like an e copy in the original format, please contact us at weetwood@btopenworld.com Do you check the CSSC website? www.cssc.co.uk On here you will find National and Regional events and events organised by other area associations. As a member, you are eligible to join in any event organised by CSSC, not just those organised by your home Area Association. 2

Did you know that your CSSC card gives you and your family entrance to English Heritage properties and now includes days when events are being held (such as the jousting at Pendennis Castle) which were previously excluded. The member savings scheme is changing, please see the announcement below:- We are delighted to announce the launch on 19 January 2016 of our new member savings scheme, *My Savings+. My Savings+ replaces the existing offering from Countdown whose contract comes to an end in January 2016. This decision was reached after careful consideration of proposals received from five prospective benefit providers, including Countdown, and by taking into account the views of a focus group of volunteers and members. My Savings+ will be completely CSSC branded. It will offer a whole wealth of benefits which will help you get more from your membership. These include: Increased savings across a range of offers Online discounts and cashback Vouchers and e-codes Local savings Competitions and a Lotto-style free lottery Health and wellbeing offers, and many more.
