2 Present Appointment: Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Head of Craniofacial Unit Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children London Professor of Craniofacial Surgery Institute of Child Health University College London Honorary Consultant Plastic Surgeon University College Hospital London Independent Private Practice 152 Harley Street London W1G 7LH Date of Appointment: May 2000
Clinical Position I lead the Great Ormond Street Hospital Craniofacial Unit, the largest of the four Supra-regionally designated UK Craniofacial units. It has a large multidisciplinary craniofacial team and is well supported by the infrastructure of Great Ormond Street Hospital. My principle craniofacial interests are in the management of congenital and acquired craniofacial deformity. I also have an interest in skull base access, the management of conjoined twins and the management of rare craniofacial tumours. In general plastic surgery my particular interests relate to the management of congenital skin conditions and vascular malformations, particularly in the head and neck region. The unit is actively involved in teaching higher surgical trainees and forms part of the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery Training scheme. I am the training representative for the unit. The adult craniofacial unit at UCLH provides treatment for congenital craniofacial deformities along with those resulting from acquired conditions. I have a significant teaching role. I regularly lecture internationally about facial surgery and am involved with training in facial plastic surgery programs organised by BAPRAS and the Surgeons. I also work in the voluntary sector. I am an active member and trustee of Facing Africa, a UK charity dedicated to treatment of craniofacial conditions in sub Saharan Africa. On a yearly basis, I lead a team of twenty people to provide treatment for children with noma in Ethiopia. The project provides first world quality treatment in Ethiopia and is active in training local surgeons. In my private practise, I have an interest in cosmetic surgery and craniofacial surgery. I have a particular interest in facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, aesthetic surgery of the facial bones, the use of custom made patient specific implants and revision surgery for failed facial cosmetic procedures. My private craniofacial practice is predominantly treating international patients.
