What happens as we age? Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity 1 As we age, skin loses HA 1 As HA diminishes, skin loses volume, increasing chances for wrinkles and folds to appear 1 Line Wrinkle Fold 1. Wang F, Garza LA, Kang S, et al. In vivo stimulation of de novo collagen production caused by cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections in photodamaged human skin. What can be done? Either Restylane or Perlane can be used to restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as: - Nasolabial folds (NLF) (nose-to-mouth lines) - Oral commissures (corner-of-the-mouth lines) - Marionette lines (mouth-to-chin lines) - Perioral rhytides (smokers lines/lipstick lines) 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. Restylane or Perlane: Well-established safety profiles Restylane and Perlane contain no animal proteins. This may limit the risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions Both products contain trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and are contraindicated for patients with a history of allergies to such material No allergy testing is required before use After your treatment with Restylane or Perlane, you may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness that typically last less than seven days 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 6

Restylane lasts up to 18 months with one follow-up treatment Restylane has been studied as a single treatment in the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) with duration of effect lasting up to six months Restylane has also been studied as a two-stage treatment: Initial treatment, then a follow-up treatment at 4.5 or 9 months In a clinical study, at least 95% of patients treated with Restylane continued to see results for up to 18 months after initial treatment when patients returned for follow-up treatment at 4.5 or 9 months Work with your healthcare professional to maintain your results with regularly scheduled treatments 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 7

RES 09-106 10/30/10 9

Perlane lasts at least six months with a single treatment Perlane has been studied only as a single treatment in the nasolabial folds (NLFs) In three clinical trials, patients were evaluated 6 months after initial treatment Up to 75% of patients maintained at least a one-grade improvement on a 5-grade scale at 6 months after initial treatment 75% in a study of 150 patients 71% in a study of 147 patients 63% in a study of 138 patients 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 10

How does my healthcare professional know when to use Restylane or Perlane? Your healthcare professional will decide which product is right for you based on a personal evaluation Either Restylane or Perlane can be used to restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Ask your physician which is right for you Restylane adds structural support and lift Perlane is for deeper injection to add volume 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 11

How are Restylane and Perlane different from botulinum neurotoxins? Botulinum neurotoxins and Restylane or Perlane are used to correct different facial wrinkles and work in different ways Restylane and Perlane are dermal fillers injected into the skin, adding volume to smooth certain facial lines and wrinkles Botulinum toxin type A products are injected into the muscles between and above your eyebrows to prevent contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 12

How much do Restylane and Perlane treatments cost? Treatment with Restylane or Perlane is based on your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient In general, the cost of a treatment is comparable to the cost of similar dermal filler procedures Ask your healthcare professional to provide a cost estimate based on your needs 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 13

What should patients do prior to treatment? There are things you should do before being treated with Restylane or Perlane that may improve your experience and help reduce the risk of certain adverse events Avoid using St. John s Wort, high doses of vitamin E supplements, aspirin, or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medications (e.g., ibuprofen) prior to treatment because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with your healthcare professional who may consider prescribing a medication to minimize recurrence 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 14

Treatment for achieving the look you desire Restylane and Perlane are injected directly into the skin in small amounts by an ultra fine needle The procedure can usually be accomplished in just one visit to the doctor's office with immediately visible results Your healthcare professional will help you decide if Restylane or Perlane is right for you 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 15

How much discomfort will I feel? Some patients find facial injections more uncomfortable than others To increase your comfort, your healthcare professional will assess your need for pain management and determine what approach is right for you 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 16

Restylane and Perlane side effects Most common side effects experienced with Restylane or Perlane treatment are swelling, redness, pain, bruising and tenderness These will usually go away within a week. Call your healthcare professional if you experience problems for longer than 14 days 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 17

What to do after treatment Cold compresses (a cloth dipped in cold water, wrung out, and applied to the injected area) may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment so you do not accidentally injure your skin while the area is numb. After that, the area can be gently washed with soap and water Until any redness or swelling goes away, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sun lamp or sun bathing) 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 18

What to do after treatment If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your physician about medications that may minimize a recurrence Avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 19

In three clinical studies, the percentage of patients maintaining improvement at six months was 75%,71% and 63%, respectively. Includes Q Med AB HA products not available in the U.S. 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 27

Important Safety Considerations for Restylane and Perlane After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause another outbreak. In rare circumstances, the doctor may inject into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use either product if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years, you should not use Restylane or Perlane. 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 28

Important Safety Considerations for Restylane and Perlane Restylane or Perlane should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as grampositive bacteria; by people with previous bad allergies to drugs that have required in-hospital treatment; or by people with bleeding disorders. Injections should not be made anywhere except the skin or just under the skin. Patients should be limited to 6.0 ml per treatment. The safety or effectiveness of Restylane and Perlane for the treatment of anatomic regions other than nasolabial folds have not been established in controlled clinical studies. 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 29

Important Safety Considerations for Restylane and Perlane The use of Restylane or Perlane at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of either product in these instances could delay healing or make your skin problems worse. Restylane and Perlane are available only through a licensed practitioner. Complete product and safety information is available at www.restylaneusa.com. 2009 Medicis Aesthetics Inc. RES 09-106 10/30/10 30
