To help prevent a sickle cell crisis: Exercise regularly. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Dress warmly. Don t swim in cold water. If you smoke, quit. Don t drink a lot of alcohol. If a sickle cell crisis happens, try these tips: Get a massage or take a warm bath. Don t think about the pain. Ask your doctor which drugs will ease your pain. If you have certain symptoms, you may need to go to the emergency room. Ask your doctor about these.
