Words from the Mighty Chief Written by Mitch Keim Lodge Chief Brothers, There are many exciting things happening for the year 2010, both with BSA and with the OA. We are hoping to make Quality Lodge for the second consecutive year, and we are implementing some new programs at summer camp. This year there are many opportunities to get involved and be active, both on the lodge level and the chapter level. I encourage everyone to make sure their 2010 dues are paid and to attend the lodge events and chapter events as well as section conclave throughout the year. I have many positions on the Lodge Executive Committee which are currently open, and this is a tremendous opportunity to gain experience in leadership while working with your fellow arrowmen to make our program this year memorable. There is a potential for the year 2010 to be the best year in lodge history, so let's make something of it! WWW, Mitch Keim Lodge Chief
Page 2 Getting up to Speed Brothers, Hoping this finds you well after another long winter in Wisconsin! We had a great Winter Banquet in January with our usual great food, great fellowship, and presentation about NOAC 2009 complete with a video of the closing show. Chris Heyrman was awarded a desktop sculpture of the legend for being selected the Lodge OA youth of the year as a gift from National and Wag O Shag. About 63% of our membership has paid their dues, but we will need to be over 75% in order to increase membership with new ordeals and achieve Quality Lodge. Are you paid, look right now and do it! Please sign up for Spring Conference by mail, at the office, or on-line. If you want to earn the Elangomat Segment (see article on our new Activity Patch) you can contact Chris Heyrman about being a valued Elangomat at Conference. The Order is the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service, and provides a wonderful opportunity for you to learn leadership skills and have fun doing it. Consider being on the Lodge Executive Committee by calling Mitch Keim our Lodge Chief. We'll be taking on the Camp Promotions Committee in DODGEBALL at SPRING CONFERENCE provided they aren't too scared to show up!! Ryan Blackmore Service Chairman From the Activities Chairman Hey guys, I hope you have your work gloves ready because the Spring Conference is coming soon. Come for a weekend of Brotherhood and Service. There were those who helped you with your Ordeal Weekend, here s your chance to give something back. The dates are May 21-23. See the flyer at the end of The Fox for more information. Also, the dates and location have been set for Conclave 2010. It is going to be held at Indian Mound Reservation in Oconomowoc. The dates of the event are September 24th -26th. So please mark your calendars for this day. The cost is $35 for adults, and youth get a discount and only cost $30. But you should sign up as soon as possible, because the late fee is $40 for both youth and adult. This is a great opportunity to see scouts from our section and around the area. Also it is at Indian Mound which is close by. It is our personal goal to get 40 people from our Lodge to attend. Conclaves switch between camps every year, so it may be a while until a conclave is basically in our backyard. There will be a sign up and a flyer out soon WWW, Jon Kuderer
Page 4 From the Training Chairman Training Committee After the success of last year s Weekend of Training, the Training Committee will again be holding the weekend. This year, the date is November 5-7, 2010 at Camp Long Lake. We will be sleeping in the Rotary Lodge with meals and training held in the Dinning Hall. All lodge members are encouraged to attend and all LEC members as well as elected lodge officials are required to attend an LLDC session before taking office. The event is free for all lodge members but registration is required so we have a count for food. Weekend events will include Training in various LLDC sessions, Guitar Hero, Choker Making, a film showcasing leadership on Friday night, and other fun events. A service activity may be organized although one was not held last year. If you have suggestions for sessions or activities you would like to see, please e-mail the Training Committee advisor Mark Rzeznik at mrzeznik1@gmail.com. Look for a sign-up slip to come out soon. Elangomats Are you interested in being a friend to ordeal candidates? Do you want to do one of the most important jobs in the lodge? Or maybe you want to relive the ordeal while guiding others through the experience? If so, sign-up to be an Elangomat at Spring or Fall Conference. Elangomats relive the ordeal while guiding their clan of candidates through their ordeal. Elangomats provide one of the most important services in the lodge. Without Elangomats, the lodge could not hold any ordeal weekends and thus not induct any new members. As an added bonus, all Elangomats receive free conference attendance, a free Elangomat t-shirt, and a rocker to go around the new lodge activity patch. If you are interested, sign-up for a conference and write Elangomat on your form. Also e-mail Mark Hansen, the membership committee advisor, at MarkH@schreiberspecialties.com and let him know you are interested in being an Elangomat. We would like to hold training for all Elangomats before the conference they will be at. We are looking for at least one more for Spring Conference 2010 and ten for Fall Conference. Thank you in advance for your cheerful service. Dance chair and Membership Chair The lodge is currently looking for two youth to chair two important committees on the Lodge Executive Committee (LEC). Both the Membership and Dance committees are without chairmen. Without chairmen, these committees will not be able to function and the lodge will not operate as efficiently. Any youth under the age of 21 may chair these committees. In addition to helping the lodge and providing a valuable service, you will have a vote on the LEC and help make important lodge decisions. As a chairman, you will run your committee and work with an adult advisor who can aid you if necessary. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact our lodge chief, Mitch Keim, at xbrother22x@yahoo.com. Webpage As some of you may have noticed, the council recently redid their webpage. The lodge is looking to follow suit. The lodge hopes to update their page soon to provide pages for all lodge committees as well as other lodge events. The new page will be more user friendly and provide many more useful links for the lodge members. The new page will be viewable by going to www.pacbsa.org and then click on the OA tab.
