2 THE PRESIDENT S CORNER Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful summer that we have had in the Pikes Peak Region. I would like to take minute and thank Bruce Barr for finding yet another interesting location for our kick off social meeting. The Iron Bird Brewery has a wonderful modern/industrial atmosphere and a down to earth wait staff that is very attentive and friendly while serving up (in my humble opinion) some of the best Ales, Lagers and Root Beer in the downtown area. If you were not able to attend our social meeting that took place at the Iron Bird Brewing Company in the last week of August then please track me down at our upcoming Chapter meeting and let me know how things have been for you since we last talked! This 2015 2016 term has started off with a bang and a whimper. The bang was from CSI National informing the Chapter Board in July that the Pikes Peak Chapter will receive two national awards. The first being the national CSI Communications Award for our newsletter The Intent and the second is the 2015 Outstanding Chapter Commendation (OCC) award. This is the seventh time our Chapter has been awarded the OCC award. With this great news the Board has voted to send Joni Zimmerman (the current Chapter President-Elect and the previous Intent editor) to CON- STRUCT at the end of this month to accept these awards for our Chapter. On the other side of the coin, the whimper was provided by me while lying on my couch ill in the middle of August. As you may have heard we had to cancel the Chapter Strategic Planning meeting in August due to me being ill. The Board has not given up on having one but we did need to postpone it until a later date. Please stay tuned for the future date. I would like to thank you the Chapter for allowing me the opportunity to serve as your President yet again this year. I would also like to take this moment to thank the Board in advance for all the time and effort that they gladly put forth for the Chapter. Their hard work and the extra commitment give our Chapter many wonderful attributes that are not always found in other organizations in our industry. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our first official meeting and program on September 30th at Southside Johnny s. Thank you for your time, Shane David CSI Pikes Peak Chapter President Volume 47 No. 1 September, 2015

4 Meet a PPCSI Board Member: Robert Hixon, CSI I am a new member of the Pikes Peak Chapter of CSI, having just joined the organization this past year. So far, I have found this organization to be both informative and enjoyable. I am currently serving as Vice-President of the Pikes Peak Chapter. I started my professional career eight years ago at Stresscon Corporation. Stresscon is a nationally recognized precaster headquartered here in Colorado Springs. We have been in business since 1968. We ve performed work throughout Colorado and have traveled as far as North Dakota and Tucson, Arizona. We provide structural and architectural precast/prestressed products and building solutions to virtually all market segments with an emphasis on high quality, value and superior customer service. At Stresscon, we put an emphasis on the front end of projects through our Pre-Construction efforts to help the AEC community design the most efficient, economical and superior building solutions. Our goal is to become the most respected group of construction professionals providing leading edge and value added Pre-Construction services to the AEC industry. I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with my beautiful wife, Adrain, and three wonderful kids, ages eleven, five and six months. We enjoy camping, hiking, riding bikes and family game night (which the kids always win). Being a strong husband and great father defines who I am.
