Michigan SCC - News from the Mitten S O C I E T Y O F C O S M E T I C C H E M I S T S M I C H I G A N C H A P T E R An End-of-year Message from Chairperson Debbie Pinardo We have reached the end of our fifth year as a chapter and we are still going strong! Thank you to all our members and sponsors! Currently we are leading the membership renewal contest for 2018. If we win, it will be our 4 th year in a row!!! So, anyone who has not renewed please do so by Dec 31 st! During 2017 we hosted three evening chapter meeting and one educational half day session combined with our first golf outing. We learned a lot from our first golf outing and hopefully will have more golf outings in our future. The educational meeting with beer tasting at 10 am was also new for us but I think was enjoyed by all. We had our first crisis when a speaker could not make the trip at the last minute, fortunately for us we have a great team and one of our members and past chair, Di Qu, stepped up and put a presentation together overnight and delivered a very educational talk! Thanks Di for saving the day! To celebrate our fifth year, we held a contest to create a new chapter logo. We had 17 entries that we voted on at our May meeting at Soaring Eagle. The winning logo was designed by Bethany Prime with help from her friend Shannon Vlassis. Along with the logo we have established a new speaker gift of a S well bottle with our logo engraved. We continued our Toys for Tots campaign at our November meeting and even had a marine in full dress to pick up our donations! Our Career Outreach program continued this year with a trip to Central Michigan before our March meeting. Nineteen chemistry and biochemistry students and two professors attended our program. The Michigan Chapter is proud to continue our support of SCC National by being a Breakfast Sponsor at the New York Annual Meeting! Hope you saw our name listed! All in all, it has been a wonderful year of great talks, trying new things and networking with our chapter friends. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have. I want to welcome and wish our new board great success in 2018. I know they and all our committee volunteers have great things in store for the new year! Happy Holidays to all! I look forward to seeing everyone at meetings in 2018.

He received a B.S.E. in electrical engineering and acoustics from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, in 2009, and his M.S.E. and Ph.D degrees from the University of Michigan in 2011 and 2013, respectively, both in biomedical engineering. His graduate work focused on treating cardiac arrhythmia using high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology. Over the past four years, he's been doing research and development on a home used face and neck beauty device based on focused ultrasound technology at Amway where he published several conference papers and patents. Ziqi presented at our November 9 th meeting at the Eberhard Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His presentation was titled Energy-based Beauty Devices for Skin Tightening. Ziqi was able to make a very technical presentation both informative and fun. He has a wonderful presentation style combined with a great sense of humor. Thank you Ziqi and congratulations from the Michigan SCC! Page 2
