FIGO Vaginal Surgery Workshop (Advanced Hands-on Simulator, Lectures and Live Surgery) 28-29 November 2010 Meeting Organiser: Mr Mohamed Hefni, FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist Venue: Benenden Hospital Trust, Benenden, Cranbrook, Kent. TN17 4AX. UK
Introductory Notes The evidences from researches of MRI, CT scans and Cadaver dissections have provided us with a new understanding of the dynamics of pelvic floor supports and pelvic floor anatomy. Pelvic organ prolapse is a form of hernia, and understanding the site specific defects made the traditional vaginal hysterectomy and anterior and posterior repair the practice of the past. Gynaecologists are nowadays faced with the challenge not only to provide the best and safest techniques for the correction of genital prolapse but also adapt and use different techniques to prevent future vaginal laxity and recurrence of prolapse. Several therapeutic options have been evolving including Sacro spinous Colpopexy and Mesh repair. The workshop will focus in different techniques of pelvic floor surgery particularly with conservation of the uterus and cost effective techniques Vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy is an effective treatment of vault prolapse and although the operation is a simple and safe procedure, which can be easily learnt, this operation has remained restricted to a minority of gynaecologists. Workshop Objectives - To train the trainer who will be able to transfer the knowledge, techniques and to establish similar workshop in there own country. -To review the recent anatomical studies and the dynamics of pelvic floor support. - To provide one to one hands-on practical skills training on Sacrospinous Colpopexy and anterior and total Trans-Vaginal Mesh and posterior IVS. - To demonstrate effective and safe surgical techniques for the treatment of uterine, vault and/or vaginal prolapse, that includes: Vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy Posterior IVS Vaginal Mesh (anterior, posterior and TVM) -To demonstrate safe techniques for vaginal hysterectomy and vaginal oophorectomies and the use of endoscopic facilities for the removal of the ovaries vaginally. -To attend and observe live surgery.
