KEY TASKS To maintain a thorough understanding of WDHB policies, Treaty of Waitangi, ARDS clinical guidelines, DCNZ policies including HPCA act, Combined Dental Agreement and referral process by the dental/oral therapists and to the hospital where required Operational activity i.to provide appropriate and timely dental treatment meeting best practice standards to children/adolescents referred by the Dental Therapists under the Combined Dental Agreement (Special Dental Services/Adolescent Oral Health services) EXPECTED OUTCOMES Clients are referred appropriately. Clinical practice reflects these guidelines and policies at all times Clients receive optimum care in a timely way - ii. To provide dental treatment for suitable children/adolescents under conscious sedation using facilities available at the clinics iii.to examine and treat special needs children where appropriate including screening at special needs schools Clients will be offered local sedation services where possible rather than refer to Hospitals Children with special needs will have their needs catered for wherever possible or referred appropriately iv.to provide treatment for dental trauma under ACC when this scheme is implemented Where available clients will be seen on request for trauma Waitemata District Health Board -ARDS Community Dentist Feb2011 Page 2

To provide legal cover during the period of Clinical Director leave vii.to cover any urgent clinical work needed when the other Community Dentist is on leave Quality and Risk To ensure the dental service meets best practice standards Professional Development To ensure that personal professional development is kept up to date EXPECTED OUTCOMES Dental/oral Therapists are supported in clinical decision making and participation in team meetings where required Legal requirement of the service are met Client s treatment is not compromised due to leave WDHB quality frame work is supported Complaints and incidents procedures are known and utilized Opportunities for service improvement are pursued Principles of Treaty of Waitangi are met Monitoring and auditing process are in place Professional registration, annual practising certificate, license to use ionizing radiation and other affiliations maintained regularly Regular continuing education planned approved and undertaken Peer review process in place Networking occurs with others in similar roles To recognize Individual Responsibility for Workplace Health and Safety under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Company health and safety policies are read and understood and relevant procedures applied to their own work activities Workplace hazards are identified and reported, including self management of hazards where appropriate Can identify health and safety representative for area Waitemata District Health Board -ARDS Community Dentist Feb2011 Page 3
