ACORNews Association of Corvair Nuts Rochester NY CORSA Chapter 148 February 2016 / Edition 1 WHAT THE PREZ SAYS PAUL ABLE Greetings ACORNs, It has been a year since the last newsletter. Hopefully we are back on track with Jim Bartesevich as our new secretary, Lisa Zillioux as our newsletter editor and yours truly in my 4th year as Prez. Rumors of ACORN's demise the Syracuse Recall in June, 4th of July Parade in Canandaigua, the anniversary picnic / white elephant sale in August and the now annual Corvairs On the Hill at Fred and Sue Marsh's place in Presho, the Fall Color Tour and the holiday dinner. ACORN OFFICERS President: Paul Able Vice President: Steve Smith Secretary: Jim Bartasevich Treasurer: Jeff Clark Newsletter Editor: Lisa Zillioux let's have a good 2016! Web Master: Marissa Andolino Membership: Jeff Clark are greatly exaggerated. 2015 was our 40th anniversary, but not our finest hour. Participation was low on just about all of our activities except the anniversary picnic at Jeff & Dave's place. The weather was sunny and warm and a good number of our members both old and new came out for the event. Highlights of 2015 included Our Planning meeting at Jeff Clark and Dave Doran's home was pleasant and well attended. Jeff made his famous chili and the members all brought a dish to pass. There was more than enough food and most of us took some home with us. More importantly was the business / planning meeting. It was decided that our club will continue on "business as usual." It was 1 Tech Session: Coordinator open

decided that we keep activities limited to quality social events and technical sessions with a couple driving events mixed in. We pretty much decided not to schedule tech sessions. Instead, we will put together "impromptu" tech sessions as needed for repair / maintenance of members' Corvairs. In closing, I want to thank Lisa for agreeing to do the newsletter this year. I believe that a big problem last year was a lack of communication from not having it. The newsletter is our best mode of communications. So, let's have a good 2016! Paul. ACORN PLANNING MEETING 2016 SUBMITTED BY: JIM BARTASEVICH Thanks to the generous hospitality [ and great chili!!] of Jeff Clark, he hosted our annual activity planning meeting. Our usual co-host, Dave Doran, was taking their Lincoln to their Florida home and couldn t attend. [ A meeting in Florida would be a little for to travel]. No Corvairs were present, except Jeff s in the garage. Members attending were: Paul Abel [ your president] Paul and Marissa Andolino {your webmaster} Jeff Clark {your treasure} Brandon Carmo {A new member; welcome} Jim Cleveland Dave and Edie Ellis Dave Lees {A new member; Welcome} Dave Pulhamus {ACORN Parts Central} Dave and Sande Shoemaker Steve Smith Lisa Zillioux {Our newsletter editor} Jim Bartasevich {an old member & Secretary} Jeff provided the chili, while the attendees brought the sides such as macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, cheesy potatoes [one needs a lot of cheese during our winters], salads, and desserts. Everyone had more than enough to eat. OLD BUSINESS: 2

NE Rally Club event: This was provided by Bill Boudway via Dave Ellis. The event is called, Rally Around the Erie Canal. It s rather expensive {$400} To enter, so it s probably more for the serious rally fanatic. Old cars are preferred but anything can be driven. However, the base will be the Hampton Inn near Eastview Mall, so the entry cars can probably be viewed at the end of the day. Here s the information: http://www.northeastrallyclub.com/2016/erie/erieletter.pdf Heritage Museum Donation: This is where Steve Smith started our fall tour last October. If you didn t attend, you missed a great time with nice driving, scenery, and historic sites. We voted to send the museum $100 as a donation. Report on Don Vair: Don and Betty Smith were long-time members. Don was treasurer for years. Both he and Betty are lifetime ACORN Members. Sam Andolino saw Don recently, and he was doing will after undergoing chemotherapy. ACORN Parts Depot: Actually, this is the residence of Dave Pulhamus who has the space to store all the remaining parts from Tom Nasman s Decades-long collection. Dave Ellis is still sorting some remaining parts. Dave is working on Sorting hundreds of pieces of Corvair hardware [Screws, Bolts, etc.,]. There are some NOS parts and lots of used. Pricing is 40% of Clark s prices for new parts and the going rate for the used so don t buy anything until you check with the two Dave s. Proceeds go to ACORN S. Besides, Edie wants the stuff out of their basement! Treasurer s Report: Jeff Clark reported that there is $1,131.85 in the treasury. Report from former members and newsletter editor, Pat and Steve Dietrick: They are doing well in Arkansas. There are about 8-9 fishing lakes and streams around the area where they live. Gee, I wonder why Steve wanted to move there? NEW BUSINESS The Primary new business conducted was the development of this year s activity calendar. We reduced the number of planned activities because it was felt that we had too much in the past. Hopefully, members will be able to attend a good number of events this year. Add them to your home and/or phone calendars now!! The number of tech sessions have been reduced the most. There are only two listed, but that doesn t mean you can t get help with your Corvairs. {Sorry we don t count window washing, raking leaves, etc. as tech sessions} If you have a problem develop or want to plan on doing something with your Corvairs, just contact us using the membership roster. There are several of us old, retired guys [ Dave Ellis, me and possibly some others] who can help you. 3
