Thank You for your contribution to CARE news CENTRE WPSH We re celebrating Administrative Professionals Day - April 24 weekly newsletter of West Parry Sound Health Centre April 22 to 28 2013 IT S VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEK! GROW Read more inside Volunteer Education Symposium THIS SATURDAY at Canadore College presented by the Parry Sound Volunteer Network For the 2012 calendar year our Auxiliary members supported our delivery of patient and family centred by providing WPSHC with... 16,198.75 hours and $93,480! Whispering Pines 3,702.25 hours in 2012... Hava Java 5,960 Quilting 2,169 Other 4,367.5 The other category consists of such things as: sewing and knitting; meetings; counting cash from the gift shop and coffee kiosk; treasurer s, president s, secretary s, and scheduler s hours; phone team hours - many tasks that cannot be classified in the other three categories Our team of volunteers are incredible! Many of our volunteers are not members of the Auxiliary. They support our delivery of patient and family centred care by serving at our Information Desk, supporting patient flow in Day Surgery and Ambulatory Care, collecting recycling and shredding, supporting care for our in-patients, enhancing Senior Friendly Care through the Hospital Elder Life Program, and more... 900 hours per month! Thank you Foundation supporters! This past year the donors and countless volunteers who support our Foundation s activities and third-party events provided us with amazing support to purchase equipment that improves our delivery of care to the community we are privileged to serve.

Supporting our delivery of Patient and Family Centred Care To all of our Volunteers... I greatly enjoy the daily opportunities that I have to interact with you. As CEO at West Parry Sound Health Centre and Lakeland Long Term Care, we are partners in health care, each with our own role in supporting and improving the experiences of the patients, residents, and families we are privileged to serve. Your work is important for our delivery of patient and family centred care, and your support is critical to the success of West Parry Sound Health Centre and Lakeland Long Term Care. We thank you for providing thousands of hours of governance, fund raising, and direct service to our organizations. You help our patients and families navigate through their care journey. You provide a friendly and knowledgeable greeting at the Information Desk and in our clinics. You provide comfort and assistance in our emergency room, on the patient units, and in resident home areas. Our Auxiliary members make beautiful quilts. They rise early in the morning to staff Hava Java and Whispering Pines Gift Shop - all to raise money in support of much-needed capital equipment purchases. We wouldn t be here or nearly as effective without your vital support. On behalf of all staff members, I thank you on the special occasion of National Volunteer Week. Please join us in the Cafeteria this Friday for a special luncheon in honour of our Volunteers. Donald Dear Volunteers, I have worked in and visited many hospitals in our country. I can honestly say that you are the best group of Volunteers I have ever had the privilege and pleasure of working with. Anne Litkowich Chief Nursing Officer Our Volunteers bring a surprising array of cultural and life experiences with them in supporting our delivery of patient and family centred care. They have a sense of duty and reward that is inspiring and generously unselfish. Join us this week in thanking them for everything they do. Jim Hanna Volunteer Services Coordinator

SWAT news Our Euchre Group is planning a road trip to Ahmic Lake We are now playing cards in the Celebration Room at Lakeland (instead of in the cafeteria). We play the first Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. It is free and it s fun! Staff, volunteers and residents of both the health centre and Lakeland are all welcome. Note: We are travelling to the Swiss Country House Restaurant on Ahmic Lake on Sunday, April 28. We will be leaving Parry Sound at about 11:30 a.m. For the joy of singing! SWAT is hoping to organize a group of people (staff, volunteers, and Auxiliary members) who would like to get together every week or so to exercise their vocal cords. Anyone who loves to sing in a group is welcome! You don t need to be star material. This is just for fun! We have two leaders interested in sharing the responsibility of leading the group (Winfer Foster and Debbie Junk-Lloyd). If you would like to give it a try, please call ext. 3606 and we will try to get something going. We will enjoy their brunch and then play euchre for the afternoon. Euchre is from 2 to 5 for anyone not wanting the brunch. There will be draws and cash prizes! Everyone welcome. Car pooling available. Join a running/walking group As a member of the Social Welcoming Activities Team (SWAT) I am wondering if there is any interest among WPSHC and Lakeland staff and volunteers in starting a running/walking group. If you are interested in joining this group, I would like to meet April 22 at 4 p.m. in the classroom on the second floor. During this meeting we will discuss further details. If you are not able to make this meeting but are interested in joining this group please let me know. Hope to see you there. Bruce Armstrong, extension 2330 barmstrong@wpshc.com All ideas (including musical accompaniment) are welcome. SWAT - Staff Welcoming and Activities Team supporting Quality Worklife at WPSHC Over one million Canadians feel sick when exposed to fragrances Staff and Volunteers... We have a Scent Reduction Policy. Please respect it. You can support the White Elephant Sale The Auxiliary is preparing to hold its Spring White Elephant Sale. If you have precious items that you no longer need and that someone else would be interested in purchasing, please bring them to the Auxiliary office. Thank you to everyone for helping our Auxiliary support quality care at WPSHC.
