Lubricants for plastic processing LICOWAX, LICOLUB, LICOCENE, LICOMONT Montan waxes For highly demanding plastic applications, our montan waxes improve processing and end product properties. Clariant solutions, such as Licowax E and OP as well as Licolub WE 4, Licolub WE 40 or Licolub WM 31 are established, well-known lubricants for plastic processing, particularly of engineering plastics, PVC and thermosets. Especially for engineering plastics such as polyamide ( PA ), polyester ( PC, PET, PBT ) and polyoxymethylene ( POM ), montan waxes provide outstanding benefits: Enlarged processing window thanks to multifunctional lubrication effects Outstanding processing stability due to high molecular weight and high thermal stability High effectiveness at low concentrations: No plate-out, non-blooming or product loss Excellent printability: High compatibility leading to low migration Our montan wax specialties, Licomont NaV 101 and Licomont CaV 102, used for the processing of injection molded polyamides and polyesters, deliver two effects in one additive: As a nucleating agent, they reduce cycle times significantly and provide excellent release and flow properties. Montan waxes continue to deliver outstanding performance and benefits in engineering plastics, especially in the automotive and in the electrical and electronics ( E&E ) areas. Examples of other innovative areas for montan waxes in the future are glass and carbon fiber composites. 2 lubricants for plastic processing

LICOCENE The innovative Licocene grades are low molecular weight polyolefins manufactured with the help of metallocene catalysts. This revolutionary Clariant process enables us to produce tailored solutions to meet your specific requirements for plastic applications and beyond. The amorphous and low melting Licocene PP wax grades are perfectly suited as sole carriers for pigment and additive masterbatches and state-of-the art dispersing agents for high-quality polymer formulations: As sole carriers of pigment and additive masterbatches, the amorphous PP grades allow high loadings with excellent coloration and low filter pressure values without negative impacts on physical and mechanical properties. As dispersing agents for high-quality polymer formulations, the crystalline grades offer a broad range of viscosities and outstanding wetting and dispersing capabilities. They enable the reduction of agglomerates, specks, spots and surface irregularities. As a result, a better dispersion of colorants, additives and fillers can be reached inside the host polymer. Polyolefin waxes The standard Clariant polyolefin waxes are based on continuous Ziegler-polymerization including catalyst and solvent removal. This results in high purity and thermal stability as well as clear melt properties of our flagship polyolefin waxes for plastics, such as Licowax PE 520, PE 190 and PE 130. In plastic processing, Clariant s polyolefin waxes serve as an external lubricant in PVC as well as an internal lubricant in PO compounds and masterbatch applications. For the production of polyolefin masterbatches, Licowax PE 520 improves pigment dispersion and enables higher color yield, lower filter value and a reduced number of specks in film application. It also provides a broader processing window for masterbatchers, can be used at lower temperatures ( > 80 C ) and helps save processing energy. The polar polyethylene waxes, Licowax PED 191 and Licolub H 12, have a pronounced anti-sticking effect and promote gelation in PVC. The highly molecular Licowax PED 191 is suitable for transparent PVC applications and is also used as a processing aid in polyolefins. Licolub H 12 provides optimum lubrication, good aesthetical appearance and high profile quality in wood plastic composites. The polar modified Licocene grades are ideal as coupling agents and compatibilizers for natural fibers like wood, for glass fiber and for mineral reinforced polyolefins. The standard grades for these applications are Licocene PE MA 4351, Licocene PP MA 6452 and Licocene PP MA 7452. They assure low water uptake in wood and natural fiber reinforced polyolefin articles and also the highest dimensional stability and highest elastic modulus in wood plastic composites. Low viscosity compared to commercially available grafted polyolefins facilitates good wetting of the fibers and is effective at concentrations of 1-3 %. As a result, the mechanical properties can be increased to the highest levels and water uptake is reduced significantly. AMIDE WAXES Our comprehensive range of specialty waxes also includes several high quality waxes. Licowax C, our standard amide wax for plastic applications, serves as an excellent internal and external lubricant in common PO and PVC, providing comprehensive compliance for use in food contact articles. In polyolefin, PVC and PET films, Licowax C acts as a slip and anti-blocking agent. Furthermore, Licowax C can be used as a dispersing agent for masterbatches based on polar plastic matrices. Clariant offers also an amide wax that is fully vegetable-based under the trade name Licolub FA 1, which performs similar to the standard Licowax C. 3
