Lions Field Parking Lot #1 was dedicated in honor of PDG Dave Slider who passed away last December. He made so many valuable contriubtions to Lionism and especially to the Wimberley Lions Club. He has been missed! Lion Pres. John Lyon, and numerous Lion and family/friends were there for the dedication. The Wimberley Lions Club and Keep Wimberley Beautiful cosponsored a City Wide Cleanup. Approximately 50 people from both organizations showed up to help out. A lot was accomplished. Lunch was provided by the Lions Club and Keep Wimberley Beautiful supplied breakfast and a lot of door prizes. This is an annual event, so if you did not help out, you will get another opportunity next year! The event was co-chaired by Lion Frank Williams and KWB Martha Knies.

VP Bob Shipe presented Outstanding Lion Awards to Lions Harold Tannehill and Bill Higdon for all of their hard work doing Pediavision Screenings at schools and churches over the past year. Congratulations to both for their outstanding achievements in getting this program going and introducing the community to this new technology. Pictured left to right is Lion Tannehill, VP Bob Shipe and Lion Bill Higdon. Singer/Songwriter Fletcher Clark entertained the club at one of our recent meeting. He had some great songs and even better stories. He has entertained us before, and we are always glad to have him. Thanks to Gary Harlow, Chair of the Program Committee for all of his hard work on getting interesting programs.

LITTLE BEVERLY AND THE SHADES Pictured above are Little Beverly and the Shades who performed at our April 15 th meeting. They do 50 s and 60 s music which is a favorite to all of our members. They are always a big draw at Market Days when the perform. The Pavilion is packed whenever they perform. STUDENT/TEACHER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL Wimberley High School Principal presents the Student/Teacher of the Month. Pictured are President John Lyon, Principal Greg Bonewald, Student Victoria Copeland and Teacher Mikyela Tedder. Congratulations to both for this special recognition.

Presidents Letter for April 2014 As many of you know, Dave Slider passed away last December. The Board wanted to do something different to honor his activity in our Club as well as the District. This last Saturday, April 26 th, we dedicated Parking Lot #1 at Lions Field in memory of Dave. Parking Lot 1 will also be known as Slider s Lot. Dave s Brother Bob and his wife Betty Jo along with several friends were present for the ribbon cutting. Photos were taken by our Lion Amy Cox. Several Lions talked about Dave including our District Governor elect Len Heimer. Several goals for the club are coming up soon. At the beginning of the year, I proposed a 5% growth to the Membership Committee and they have NOT let me down. Presently we are at 198, just 2 shy of our goal. On several occasions, the end of the year is also a time to revise our membership lists. Several non-paying members could be dropped, so keep trying. Another goal was to increase the number of women in our club. We have done that but could do better. Please continue to look for new members. If you receive the invite or RSVP from our Lion Rebecca Stoian to our meetings, you should also receive info on the upcoming program. My best advice for asking a new hopeful is to ask more than the yes or no question. Ask what they have heard about Lions or Wimberley, then respond with what we do for the community and schools. In the following weeks we will have our LEO s presidents receive awards for their service to the club. Scholarship Committee will present the students winners. Youth Exchange Committee will have a picnic for the outbound students. I will be attending a Zone Meeting in Johnson City on May 1st, a District Convention May 10 th, a District training session in Buda on May 13 th and of course our Market Days on May 3 rd. Future officers should go to the training in Buda, which is the closest site for our training. Thank you for all you do for Lions! John Lyon President
