Attended ADOS training Summer 08 2 members completed 18 hour certificate program in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) from Pittsburg State University Ongoing continuing education in ASD Help gather information through screenings and assessments to assist in diagnostic process for students ages 3 and over living in USD 480 s district Help identify children suspected of ASD Provide support to families, community, physicians, and USD 480 Increase awareness of ASD To serve USD 480 students (preschool-12 th ) 2

Screening Tools Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M- CHAT) for children 16-30 months of age Childhood Autism Rating Scale 2 (CARS-2) for children 2 years and up Asperger s Syndrome Diagnostic Scale (ASDS) for children 5-18 years of age Evaluation Tools Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R) for any person from early childhood to adults (with mental age of at least 2 years) Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) used for children through adulthood 3

Receive a referral (IEP team, Doctor, Parent) Obtain permission for screening Administer appropriate screening tool Meeting with team & parent to review screening results If positive screen, move into an evaluation Team responsibilities: Bridget observation of student Dayna parent interview, write report, & coordinate meeting Obtain permission for evaluation Administer ADOS & ADI-R Meeting with team & parent to review evaluation results Meet with parent, Pediatrician and/or KU tele-med to obtain medical diagnosis based on DSM-IV criteria Team responsibilities: Team conducts ADOS Dayna & Holly -ADI-R Dayna Write report & coordinate meeting 4

Our school district DOES NOT diagnose ASD Our school district DOES: Share assessment results with local physicians for a medical diagnosis when appropriate Utilize telemedicine appointments with KU as a resource for our team, families, and physicians We do have a local Pediatrician on our ADT Other Pediatricians: Provide information & resources on autism, sign release to share records, and provide a written report of our findings 5

Have students attend home school if possible If in elementary and home school can t meet needs, we do have a classroom for more severe students with autism Consult & conduct observations to offer suggestions or strategies to use Help develop Ziggurat Model & CAPS Help develop social skills groups Provide resources to school & parents Transition - TTAP Autism awareness activities in April Lending library Display @ library Proclamation w/ City of Liberal Radio talk Presentations/training to community Healthy fun fair 6
