Screening Tools Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M- CHAT) for children 16-30 months of age Childhood Autism Rating Scale 2 (CARS-2) for children 2 years and up Asperger s Syndrome Diagnostic Scale (ASDS) for children 5-18 years of age Evaluation Tools Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R) for any person from early childhood to adults (with mental age of at least 2 years) Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) used for children through adulthood 3
Receive a referral (IEP team, Doctor, Parent) Obtain permission for screening Administer appropriate screening tool Meeting with team & parent to review screening results If positive screen, move into an evaluation Team responsibilities: Bridget observation of student Dayna parent interview, write report, & coordinate meeting Obtain permission for evaluation Administer ADOS & ADI-R Meeting with team & parent to review evaluation results Meet with parent, Pediatrician and/or KU tele-med to obtain medical diagnosis based on DSM-IV criteria Team responsibilities: Team conducts ADOS Dayna & Holly -ADI-R Dayna Write report & coordinate meeting 4
Our school district DOES NOT diagnose ASD Our school district DOES: Share assessment results with local physicians for a medical diagnosis when appropriate Utilize telemedicine appointments with KU as a resource for our team, families, and physicians We do have a local Pediatrician on our ADT Other Pediatricians: Provide information & resources on autism, sign release to share records, and provide a written report of our findings 5
