Zilmer Riley Post 84 American Legion and Auxiliary New Letter July, Aug, Sept 2016 WORDS FROM Post Commander Greetings Summer is here and we are looking good. The post is about to get busy getting ready for the fair. And we are putting things together for the beginning of Bingo in the fall. We will need all the help we can get with both of these projects. Please use the signup sheets which are on the board for each program. We also want to thank Pete Blum for getting our Warrior Feed up and running, and also all the people who helped. It was a success and we could not have done it without everyone. Again, it is very important to sign up for the fair and bingo. These projects are going to benefit the Legion and we need your assistance. We hope you have a great summer. Dennis Swank Commander WORDS FROM 1 ST VICE Commander 97% we made 97% off 100% membership for last year. That is awesome. That makes me proud of our post. Now the new membership cards will be coming out soon I would like us to make 100% this year. When you receive your membership dues please take care of them as soon as you can. New members are always welcome. If you know of a service member both past and present we would welcome them home and welcome them to our post. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to drop me a line at legionpost84@hotmail.com.

Helpers, Helpers, Helpers. To keep our wonderful post moving we need your help. There are many things going on at the post and we are always looking for helper. From washing dishes for Friday night fish to serving beer at the fair to helping us with Bingo. We are always looking for helpers. Without helpers we would not have the wonderful post we do. Please drop me a line to let me know how you would like to help. A big thank you for all who have helped us in the past I am proud of what we have done and look forward to the up. There are many things going on at the post. Take a look at the calendar on the web site for up and coming events. www.monroelegionpost84.com Have a safe summer and hope so see everyone soon. Peter Blum.1 st Vice WORDS FROM 2 nd Vice Commander Happy Independence Day Everyone! It s that time of year again for getting together, grilling, and wearing the red, white, and blue! Most importantly though, it s that time where we can celebrate not only the independence of this great country, but the men and women who continue to keep it free. Another great thing about this time of year is the Green County Fair! I hope everyone gets a chance to go out and enjoy the activities. Make sure to stop by our spot there and if you can volunteer, that would be great as we need more people to help out! So if you have the time around July 20-24, 2016, contact Dennis Swank at the Legion for more details. Also, if you haven t come to a Friday Fish Fry yet or our 2nd Sunday breakfast, you are missing out! Every Friday you have the opportunity to come and partake of a great Wisconsin tradition that leaves you excited for the next Friday. The 2 nd Sunday of the month is also the perfect time to eat a nice big breakfast that you don t have to cook! So, bring your family out and enjoy! Just a heads up, the first Sunday in August we will be having a picnic at Yellowstone Lake. It s a beautiful spot, so make sure you keep it in mind. We hope we ll see you there! Also, in October we will be hosting our first Bingo event, so keep your eyes open in the next newsletter for more details. I hope everyone has been pleased with the new paint job and other improvements to the building. If you haven t yet, make sure you come check it out. In fact, why don t you and yours get out of the heat of summer by stopping in and getting a cold, adult or non-adult beverage (your choice!). See you there, Barry McGuire, 2nd. Vice Commander bmikemcguire@gmail.com

WORDS FROM Commander, Auxiliary Donna Douglas As you all know it is hard to find people to serve in many organizations and the American Legion Auxiliary is no exception. In the spirit of service to Zilmer-Riley American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 84, our veterans, our military and their families, our present Auxiliary officers have agreed to serve for the coming 2016-2017 year. I would like to extend a big thank you to Frances Wells for serving as secretary of Auxiliary Unit No. 84. She agreed to be our secretary for the past few years. Francis did an excellent job recording our minutes. This position is not an elective position and is appointed by the president. If anyone is willing to serve our Auxiliary in this position please contact me at 608.214.8566. We need you! Acceptance of the offices we serve is not for self, but to support the American Legion and what our mission states. to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who have served and are still serving our country. I am asking for the support of each Auxiliary member and Zilmer-Riley American Legion Post No. 84 members to work together as an American Legion Family so we can accomplish the mission and goals of the American Legion. You are invited to participate in our monthly meeting held on the first Thursday of each month and our special events that we sponsor. Please remember our troops serving our country today. Our support to all service men and women, our veterans and their families is important at this time. God Bless America and Each One of You! Donna Douglas, President Zilmer-Riley American Legion, Unit No. 84 WORDS FROM 1 ST VICE PRESIDENT, AUXILIARY Helen Miller We hope everyone is enjoying summer and the activities/vacations that go with. Thanks to those who updated your dues since the last newsletter. We are pleased to report we are down to 9 members whose dues are outstanding. Although collection for 2016 dues does not end until December 31, 2016, it would be great if we could receive these last few dues in the very near future as in approximately two months 2017 membership notices will be sent out. Let s get 2016 dues paid before this. Dues can be sent directly to the Post Home, or can be paid directly to American Legion Auxiliary Department of WI, PO Box 140, Potage, WI 53901, or can be paid directly online at www.alaforvetrans.org. We are very pleased to welcome new member Jan Wartenweiler, whose late father was Vernon Schillinger and was a former member of the American Legion. Welcome Jan!

Sad news is that we lost two long-time members who were dedicated members for many years. Ruth Gibbons, a member since 1952 (64 years), and Arlene Huffman a member since 1973 (43 years). These members who left us will be dearly missed. Our sympathies to their families. WORDS FROM 2nd VICE PRESIDENT, AUXILIARY Carol Clark Thanks to everyone that has helped with banquets etc. Please continue to book events early so you get your date. I m still sending Care Packages to our troops. If you know of a service member that is overseas and would like mail we are looking for more addresses. The Aux is having a Rummage Sale Aug 12 th 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Aug 13 th & 14 th 8 a.m. to noon. Preferably NO adult clothing. Thank you for supporting your Post.
