PreACT What is PreACT? Math, Science, English and Reading Subject Tests Same as ACT, without the writing PreACT = 10 th Grade, ACT = 11 th & 12 th Grade Interest Inventory Why do we take PreACT? Great practice for ACT Results provide data and guidance for ACT preparation Results provide insights on college readiness Identify strengths and weaknesses Start career exploration

PreACT

PreACT PreACT Score 1-35 Scale Score in each subject area (ACT is 1-36) Composite = Average of Math, Science, English and Reading rounded to a whole number. STEM = Average of Math and Science rounded to a whole number. ACT College Readiness Benchmarks If you score at or above the benchmark ACT predicts you have 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher In specific first year college courses in the corresponding subject area

PreACT PreACT Score Score vs Score Range PreACT Score: estimates of your educational development based on this one test. PreACT Score Range: ACT says to think of your true achievement on this test as being within a range as shown by the bands around your scores.

PreACT

PreACT Predicted ACT Ranges What does this mean? Predicted ACT ranges in each subject area and composite based on PreACT test results PreACT scores used to predict how you are likely to do if you take the ACT in 11 th grade Improving study habits, completing 10 th and 11 th grade curriculum and ACT test prep classes may improve upon you predicted ACT score. Not a guarantee, only an estimate based on PreACT score.

PreACT Predicted ACT Ranges Things to consider: Am I on track to achieve the ACT scores I want? What are my strengths and weaknesses? What can I do to get on track or stay on track? 10 th and 11 th grade classes ACT Test Prep classes in 11 th grade Study habits

Study Skills Checklist Set a regular time and place to study each day and throughout the week Keep a daily to do list Set goals for yourself Do reading assignments before the material is discussed in class Pay close attention and take good notes in class Prepare for tests during your regular study times instead of cramming at the last minute

Estimated ACT Assessment Composite Score for Highly Selective (30-36) --Majority of accepted freshmen in top 10% of high school graduating class. (Notre Dame, Northwestern, Boston College, Washington University, U of Michigan, etc.) Selective (23-29) --Majority of accepted freshmen in top 25% of high school graduating class. (Marquette, Loyola, St. Louis University, DePaul, University of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, UIC, Michigan State, Purdue, University of Wisconsin, etc.) Traditional (19-22) --All accepted freshmen in top 50% of high school graduating class. (Columbia College, smaller private colleges and state universities in the west) 11

PreACT

PreACT Detailed PreACT Results Breaks each subject test into categories Provides total questions, total correct, and percentage correct per category. Helps identify strengths and weaknesses Teachers and administration review this material and make adjustments in curriculum Teachers also do practice ACT problems in class and will use this data to focus on certain categories. Understanding Complex Texts the indicator lets you know if you are understanding the central meaning of complex texts at a level that is needed to succeed in college courses.

PreACT

PreACT Item Response Analysis Students will get their PreACT test booklet back on Friday. Can use response analysis together with test booklet to look at questions they did not get correct. Ideas for Progress ACT has identified categories for students to focus on for progress. Teachers and administration will also be reviewing this. Talk with teachers and ask for practice problems Visit www.act.org/standards/ideasforprogess for more details about Ideas for Progress.

PreACT

PreACT Course Plans Compared to Core Some students got confused and only included 9 th and 10 th grade courses SVHS Graduation requirements match the ACT college-prep curriculum guidelines Most students exceed these guidelines by taking a 4 th year of both Math and Science.
