NEW EU LEGISLATION Under New EC noise legislation employers must provide suitable hearing protection where noise exceeds 0dB(A), all EU member states must comply with the new directive by February 2006. Continued exposure to noise above 0dB(A) could cause permanent hearing damage to workers. Many employees not affected under previous legislation will now have to be considered. For example people working in light industry, utility workers and public service employees may now be exposed and must be provided with adequate protection. Hearing protectors recommended BACKGROUND Choosing the correct hearing protection for your needs can be a difficult process. You need to be certain that you are providing the correct level of protection for the noise level. You need to ensure that workers are not over protected and that a suitable product is chosen for the job. With this in mind E.A.R and Peltor have devised an easy to-use selection system that aids the correct choice of protection for the noise level. 60 Conversation 50 LOW ATTENUATION Soft Whisper Rice Crispies 0 30 20 E.A.R and Peltor have launched a new range of lower attenuating products to fulfil the needs of employees working at lower noise levels. It is as important to ensure workers are not over protected, as it is to make sure they have adequate protection. Over protected workers may feel isolated, may not be able to hear warning signals, can not converse with fellow workers. The likely outcome from this is the workers will remove their hearing protectors from time to time, which defeats the object of supplying hearing protection. 10 0 Threshold of hearing Compliance at the lower noise levels will prove a challenge as workers will not realise the dangers, many will experience these levels in their day to day lives outside of the work place (nightclubs, power tools, car stereos etc.). Education will be a key strategy to succeeding with your hearing conservation programme.
OPTIME ALERT SYSTEM HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS Our system uses a simple, logically coloured classification to make the selection process easy. Firstly find out what your noise level is, then look at the above icons and establish which band (RNR) the noise level falls into. Take note of this icon and choose from the wide range of E.A.R and Peltor products featuring the correct icon. As you will see, there is a choice of earplugs, banded earplugs and earmuffs for each of the noise bands. RNR = Recommended Noise Rating RNR* < 5dB(A) You do not have to wear hearing protection, but make it available to your workers. RNR* 3dB - 93dB(A) is compulsary. RNR* 7dB - 9dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for high frequency noise. RNR* 9dB - 105dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for high and medium frequency noise. PLEASE NOTE: At levels above 95dB you will need to get an accurate noise assessment to correctly select the product. Green and Yellow marked products are not suitable for use in low frequency noise. RNR* 95dB - 110dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for all frequencies. RNR* < 5dB(A) HEARING PROTECTORS FOR LOWER NOISE LEVELS New Low Attenuation reusable ear-plug made from hypoallergenic rubber. The UltraFit 12 uses patented filter technology to take the edge off low levels of harmful noise whilst allowing normal conversations or listening to broadcast music. Recommended for noise levels up to 5 db(a). EARFLEX 12 The new Low Attenuation E A Rflex 12 is a convenient banded ear-plug for noise exposure up to 5dB(A). This product is fully washable enabling you to use it over and over again. The low attenuation means you hardly realise you're wearing it but there is still that essential protection.
RNR* 3-93dB(A) HEARING PROTECTORS FOR LOWER NOISE LEVELS E A RSOFT 21 21dB SNR For noise levels up to 93dB(A) the E A Rsoft 21 is the ideal disposable hearing protector. It provides the correct hearing protection level whilst being easy to use. It simply pushes into the ear canal, requiring no roll down and helps ensure a correct fit every time. ULTRAFIT 20 20dB SNR For higher noise levels (up to 93dB(A)) the Ultrafit 20 provides that little bit of extra attenuation. Correctly matched to the noise level it allows conversation and background music to be heard whilst protecting the user from hearing loss. E A RFLEX 20 20dB SNR For noise levels up to 93dB(A) the E A Rflex 20 provides optimum attenuation without blocking conversation and broadcast music. E A Rflex can be stored around the neck when not in use. HEARING PROTECTORS FOR HIGHER NOISE LEVELS RNR* 7dB - 9dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for high frequency noise. RNR* 9dB - 105dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for high and medium frequency noise. RNR* 95dB - 110dB(A) is compulsary. Ideal for all frequencies.
