Summer went by too quickly! It is truly an honor to represent you as your president this year. What I lack in experience, I hope to make up for with perseverance. Plans for the Padua Cerveza and Wine Festival are in place but there is much left to do. Stephanie Mann is the event chairperson this year. If you have not yet signed up for a committee, please contact her. We absolutely need all our members to lend a helping hand.. In addition, if you have contacts that you would like to include on our invite list, please get the names, addresses and/or email addresses to Stephanie as soon as possible. One mailing has already gone out, but we will be following up with another. It is very possible that we will be able to bring in outside volunteers from the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps to relieve our members of having to work during the event. They would be able to provide adults over age 21 to come in and work our tables and sell opportunity tickets. Negotiations are in progress. We have also committed to a booth at the Village Venture in Claremont which will be held on October 27 th. This event is an opportunity to put our name out there and to gather names of people who may be interested in joining, volunteering, sponsoring or attending our fundraisers. We can t ignore opportunities like these. Please consider chairing this event or working a shift on that day. It should be great fun! I m looking forward to reconnecting with you at our September 4 th meeting. Denise Delgado President Page 1

MEMBERSHIP Please make sure to RSVP whether or not you will be coming to the meeting next week! ~ Laura Romero PHILANTHROPIC Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and fun summer. The Dental Center will be opened and back in business September 11 th. Dr. Maldonado and Roger Krechmery continue to work on the Denti-Cal application and have contacted Orange Chapter for a little guidance. The whole application procedure is extremely long and intricate so fingers crossed that our sister chapter is able to provide us with the support we need. On August 3 rd Stephanie Roberts and Cathy Harden participated in Pomona Unified s Back Pack giveaway. We connected with well over a 1000 students and their families and were able to share information about our Philanthropies and give each family an Assistance League of Pomona Valley shopping bag. It was a crazy fun day. Our 1 st Operation School Bell delivery will be September 12 th so please look for sign-ups at our September meeting. We will be hosting PUSD Nurses Meeting at Chapter on September 18 th. We will be offering a light breakfast and giving tours of Operation School Bell and the Dental Center. This is a wonderful networking opportunity and a way to meet the new hires who aren t familiar with our services. ~ Cathy Harden CORRESPONDING SECRETARY June 2018 19 th - Rene Sippel 23 rd - Jessica Ortega Get Well s 10 th - David Frazier (Surgery) July 2018 11 th - Linda Facer 27 th - Kathee Elliott August 2018 1 st - Laura Romero 14 th - Phyllis Veldman-Fine 19 th - Stephanie Roberts 20 th - Markie Harden September 2018 2 nd - Kellie Claflin 5 th - Denise Delgado 8 th - Sharon Goodrich 18 th - Kim Parra 27 th - Roger Krechmery 28 th - Lynne Kirchhoff ~ Nitzi Barker AUXILIARY The first Auxiliary meeting will be October 3 rd. HEADQUARTERS League, Dental Center, etc. has been painted, along with all the parking lot walls and wrought iron. Still dealing with the homeless and all that they leave behind and are working on repairing sprinklers that have turned into geysers. Denise and her elves have done a great job making the inside look wonderful. Thank you all. If you see something that needs to be done, please let us know. ~Nitzi and Keith Barker Page 2

September Cerveza & Wine Fest Our September Cerveza & Wine Fest at Padua Hills Theatre has taken shape and will be here soon. Since last year s event went so well, this year s event is staying nearly the same. We have Claremont Craft Ales, Taqueria El Sol, Photoboothie, and Strangebrew Band booked. Plume Ridge Bottle Shop has generously donated 3 cases of rosé. We need some red and white wines to serve our guests, so if you would like to donate a bottle of wine for the event, that would be much appreciated. If possible, please bring it to our meeting on September 4 th. Lynne K. and Cathy H. are working on opportunity baskets, and as a reminder, member obligation is a $100 item (donated or purchased). Please connect with Lynne and let her know what you will be donating or if you need ideas, please ask. If you already have your item, please bring it to our meeting on September 4 th. We will also have a small silent auction featuring 2 Good Year Blimp ride tickets and a Total Wine & More wine tasting package. Both mailed and emailed invitations have gone out. If you have any additional contacts that should receive an invitation, please send their names, addresses and emails to Roger and Stephanie M. Tickets can be purchased through our website and sponsorship opportunities are also still available online. Please help spread the word, so we can make this event a success! Thank you! ~Stephanie Mann Page 3
