Certificate IV in Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology Course Information The Certificate IV in Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology covers the essential skills and knowledge for executing and instructing Pilates exercises and programs in a safe, effective and contemporary manner applying sound knowledge of the philosophical and mechanical Pilates principles, fundamental anatomy and biomechanics, as well as specific teaching methodology. On completion of the Certificate IV you will be able to demonstrate a range of welldeveloped skills applicable in health and fitness settings. Work at this level may be undertaken independently or under guidance and/or supervision. TARGET GROUP This course is suited to students wanting to pursue a part- time or full time career as a Pilates Matwork Instructor, either within an existing Pilates Studio or intending to work as part of an allied health team. DELIVERY MODE Classroom Delivery (75 hours) includes formal lectures and workshops covering Pilates theory and practical instruction of the Pilates exercises. Delivered over a minimum of 18 weeks with mandatory attendance at 5 weekend workshops, covering the theory and science of Pilates, practical instruction of Pilates repertoire exercises, teaching methodology and programming for Pilates Matwork Instructors. Self-Study (75 hours) 3-4 hours per week self- study of the theory and science of Pilates, including practical and written assessments set weekly by the course provider over the duration of the course. This includes set assessment tasks, selected readings, research and participation in study groups. Clinical Practice (50 hours) - which involves 50 hours work experience in one or more Pilates studios involving general administration duties and Pilates instruction enabling the consolidation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. 2 TRAINING INFORMATION PACKAGE
Personal Exercise Practice (50 hours) includes a minimum of 32 hours participation in Pilates sessions taught by an accredited Pilates Instructor and signed off by that instructor; and 18 hours personal practice of Pilates exercises as set by the course provider on a weekly basis (1hr per week). These hours must be recorded in students personal exercise journal. Costs associated with undertaking these Personal Practice sessions will be in addition to the cost of your course fees. SCHEDULING 5 weekend workshops (2 days) are conducted approximately one month apart for the duration of the course. Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology Course Information The Tensegrity Training Integrated Course for the Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology will equip you with the skills and experience to successfully enter the workforce as a Pilates Instructor. The course will provide you with client assessment skills, exercise prescription and teaching techniques, as well as a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology and associated pathologies. The Integrated Course for the Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology is an intermediate level qualification for the Pilates industry using holistic training principles. The course equips you with skills to make informed assessments and design outstanding improvement strategies for low to moderate risk clients. Graduates will have sophisticated skills in teaching and assessment, be able to problem solve, utilize consistent thinking and be able to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable situations. The Integrated Course for the Diploma of Contemporary Pilates & Teaching Methodology is a comprehensive course equipping graduates with a solid understanding of Matwork Pilates and Studio Equipment Pilates. As a graduate of the Integrated Course for the Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology you will enter the Pilates industry with exceptional skills to work in the fitness, health or community sectors. You will become a practitioner with a contemporary approach to the holistic delivery of Pilates drawn from a sound knowledge of the science of human movement, teaching methodology & didactics. SKILLS DEVLEOPMENT The Integrated Course for the Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology takes Pilates Instructors to the skill level required to continue postrehabilitative work, as it provides the education and level of understanding to work more closely with allied health practitioners such as doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, exercise physiologists, massage therapists, nurses and midwives. for a range of populations and client needs. Design and instruct personalised Contemporary Pilates training designed for varying levels, body and postural types for low to medium risk clients. Include a variety of Pilates equipment and small apparatus into all of your sessions. Work confidently with post- rehabilitative clients. Confidently liaise with other allied health professionals. About the course deliverers ANITA DELBRIDGE GOSWELL Anita Delbridge Goswell is an accredited Exercise Physiologist with the Exercise and Sports Science Association (ESSA). She completed her Graduate Certificate in Exercise Science (Rehabilitation) at Charles Sturt University in 2009 and her Bachelor of Education (PDHPE) at the University of Newcastle in 1995. She lectured at the NSW Tafe in the Health and Recreation Department for 10 years and has been in the Health and Fitness industry since 1990, specialising in programming for general fitness, strength, injury rehabilitation and weight loss. As an Exercise Physiologist, she has also been involved in studies conducted at the University of Newcastle. Anita is also a Level 4 Pilates Practitioner with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA), having completed her Graduate Certificate in the Pilates Method at the University of Technology in Sydney in 2002 and holds a Diploma of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology through Tensegrity Training. She has spent 4 years on the APMA Council, with her last year as Vice President of the association. MARK GOSWELL Mark Goswell is an accredited Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Mark completed his Bachelor Social Science in Human Movement in 1997 and the Graduate Diploma in PDHPE through Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. He is an accredited Rehabilitation Pilates Instructor through Polestar International and has a Diploma in Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology through Tensegrity Training. He has worked as an Exercise Physiologist since 2000, developing areas of expertise with injuries to the spine (lumbar, thoracic and cervical), as well as rehabilitation of the shoulders and knees. Through 14 years of experience he has gained extensive experience in the rehabilitation of clients with complex neurological and neuromuscular conditions, muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy.
