Credit Points Program Interlocking Nailing Course for Surgeons 6-7 February 2017 Berlin Germany
Preface Dear Colleagues, Intramedullary nailing has gained widespread acceptance among orthopaedic trauma surgeons. Particularly at the femur and the tibia it is considered as gold standard in the treatment of diaphyseal fractures. However, based on the huge advantages of intramedullary nailing like preserving the soft tissues, excellent biomechanics and minor disturbance of the bone healing process, the indication for intramedullary nailing has been extended towards further bone segments and the upper extremity. However, these new indications (for example nailing in the metaphyseal area) imply completely new considerations. Likewise, the implant design has to respect different biomechanical influences and higher demands on stability. This course intends both: Teaching the basics of intramedullary nailing at the different anatomical segments and providing knowledge on how to address problems arising with the extended indication for nailing. Numerous examples from all fields of indications will be presented and discussed with the participants. Particularly special pitfalls and also the pearls of intramedullary treatment of fractures will be discussed. Another focus of the course is on hands-on workshops. During the workshop sessions there will be plenty of time to discuss current aspects of intramedullary nailing with the international faculty. Dear Colleagues, let us cordially invite you into the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin, the capital of Germany. We expect exciting discussions and hope to share with you the latest knowledge regarding intramedullary nailing. Hermann Josef Bail, MD
