Instructions for Use REMOTE CONTROL RC-N

Congratulations on the purchase of your new RC-N remote control. Your remote control allows you to adjust your hearing aid volume and program settings. Please read the entire contents of this booklet before using your RC-N remote control. It contains instructions on how to use and how to handle your RC-N. It also contains important safety information.

Care and Maintenance 30 Information to the User Regarding the Radio Communication Part of the Device 31 International Warranty 36

General Warnings Familiarize yourself with the following general warnings before using your RC-N remote control. Hazard Warnings RC-N is not a toy and should be kept away from children and anyone else who might swallow parts or otherwise cause injury to themself. Special attention should be paid to the smaller components in order to prevent swallowing or choking. If a part is swallowed, see a doctor immediately. 6

Never expose the RC-N to excessive heat, such as putting it in an oven, microwave, burning it or leaving it inside a parked car in the sun. There is a risk in these events that it will explode and cause serious injury. RC-N should not be used in an aircraft unless specifically permitted by the flight personnel 7

Users are advised to follow the guidelines as recommended by manufacturers of implantable defibrillators and pacemakers regarding use of mobile phones. If you wear an active implant, keep the RC-N more than 15 cm (5.9 inches) away from the implant. The RC-N power source has insufficient energy to cause fire in normal conditions of use. The RC-N has not been tested for compliance with international standards concerning explosive atmospheres. It is recommended not to use your RC-N in areas where there is a danger of explosions. 8

Cleaning is recommended on a regular basis, using a dry or slightly damp cloth without solvents. The RC-N must not be exposed to or cleaned with cleaning chemicals or alcohols. The chemicals in cosmetics, hairspray, perfume, aftershave lotion, suntan lotion and insect repellant can damage your remote control. You should always remove your RC-N before applying such products and allow time for the product to dry before using your RC-N. Do not immerse the remote control in water or other liquids. 9

If a hand strap is used, make sure it is designed and suitable for this purpose. Never use a neck strap due to the risk of strangling. Do not use the RC-N during X-ray, CT / MRI / PET scanning, electrotherapy or surgery Using the RC-N while driving can distract you. If driving conditions or traffic laws demand it, pull off the road and park before using the RC-N. 10

Always use batteries recommended by your hearing care professional. Batteries of low quality may leak and cause bodily harm. An empty battery should be removed as soon as possible. Never attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. They may explode and cause serious injury. Never dispose of batteries by burning them. There is a risk that they will explode and cause serious injury. 11

Help protect the environment by not disposing of your RC-N batteries with your unsorted household waste. Please recycle the batteries or return them to your hearing care professional for disposal. The RC-N uses digital inductive signals to transmit commands to the hearing aids. Although extremely unlikely, concerns have been raised that this signal could possibly interfere with medical devices such as pacemakers. As an additional precaution, we advise pacemaker recipients not to carry and use the RC-N in a breast pocket or around the neck. 12

The emission power from the RC-N is below international emission limits for human exposure. For comparison, the radiation of the RC-N is less than unintended electromagnetic radiation of hair dryers, electric shavers, etc. The RC-N complies with international standards concerning electromagnetic compatibility. 13
