PARTICIPATORY WELFARE SERVICES Health Profile Participatory Welfare Services is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political developmental organization struggling to aware, organize and mobilize the people for the realization of their developmental and basic human rights, registered under Voluntary Social Welfare Agency Ordinance 1961 on September 8, 1994. It was self-financed initiative taken by a group of youth volunteers. Participatory Welfare Services is active in the different socio-economic spheres of the society in association with partners at local, national and international levels. VISION: A democratic, peaceful, prosperous and progress society with respect to human rights for all without discrimination MISSION: We strive to build & strengthen community capacity and empower the poor, marginalized and excluded people to address their development needs through integration & coordination at local, regional, national and international level. OBJECTIVES: 1. Facilitate the provision of basic health and education services, by ensuring the functioning and strengthening of health and education facilities. 2. Empower deprived segments of society women, children and farmers to secure their basic rights. 3. To alleviate extreme poverty through strengthening the indigenous livelihood mechanism, microfinance and building of community physical infrastructure. 4. To undertake policy level research, advocacy and provide capacity building opportunities to the civil society organizations and government institutions through Research & Resource Development Centre (RRDC). Program Package: Poverty Reduction Program Promoting Education through Innovative Financing Promoting Climate Resilience Sustainable Agriculture and ensuring Food Security Improving Livelihoods through alternative economic models building Holding governments to account on public services and tax justice Ensuring Health & Prevention from HIV/AIDs Securing Women Rights Community Physical Infrastructure Emergency Response Program Livelihood (on farm, Off farm) Shelter /Protection Food & Non Food Items Community Physical Infrastructure Community Restoration & WATSAN Improvement Youth Development Program Youth Capacity Building Social Action Projects Exposure & Networking Poverty Reduction Program (PRP): Poverty Reduction Program is organizational regular long term development program. This program has specific focus to basic human rights provision through alternative model buildings and to create income generation opportunities innovatively to address causes of poverty. PWS is struggling through capacitating the communities and empowering them to claim their basic rights, through providing support and opportunities at their nearby vicinity and linkage development with relevant government line department agencies. Ensuring Health & Prevention from HIV/AIDs PWS intervenes in the social life of the intervening districts by helping people, especially women and children, to overcome the problems generated by the neglect of the state departments. The activities include capacity building trainings to Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), vaccination campaigns, research study on Hepatitis, awareness raising on primary health care, establishment of family planning & reproductive health centre, free ultra sound medical camps, awareness sessions on HIV/AIDs and support to Basic Health Units and Rural Dispensaries, establishment of community health centers and advocacy for missing facilities to the existing health facilities. What we have done so far: 1994-2003 Health was considered as cross cutting component in our interventions. Health issues remain part of all discussion however specific Interventions were as below: - Establishment of Free health dispensary in collaboration with Punjab Bait Ul Mall & Social welfare department. - Celebration of World Health days, HIV/Aids day and participation in vaccination campaigns - Support to needy families through blood donation members and volunteer support in accidents and other emergencies. - Implementation of TAWANA Pakistan Project in District Layyah for Girls Nutrition in collaboration with South Asia Partnership-Pakistan, Ministry of Women Development and district education/health department. - Formation and strengthening (Capacity building around health and nutrition) of 250 School Tawana Committees (STCs) in 37 Union Councils of Layyah- Punjab. 2004-2015 Health component became major thematic area of international. Numerous interventions carried out ranging from advocacy to service delivery around health which are as below - Establishment, facilitation and continuation of community health centers/maternity centers. - Support to physically disabled children, elder with basic support material including crutches, hearing, wooden arms etc - Establishment of physiotherapy center/rehabilitation center for physical disables. - Session with truck drivers and general community on HIV/Aids and banners campaigns on HIV/Aids. - Printing and dissemination of Information, Education & Communication (IEC) material on health including, safe drinking water, health hygiene best practices and HIV/Aids. - Healthy baby mother competitions. - Establishment and continuation of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Center. - Capacity building/refresher Courses of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and provision of safe delivery kits. - Capacity building Training of TBAs on safe pregnancy habits, safe delivery. - Capacity building Training of LHVs and dispensers on urine, pregnancy and other basic testing. - Capacity building Trainings on Primary Health Care for general community members. - Capacity building Trainings of children on health and hygiene. - Policy dialogues and paralegal training with lawyers, police department and health department. - Coordination meetings of TBAs with line department and advocacy for health center operationalization. - Formation and capacity building of Health Committees around BHUs and dispensaries - Provision of material to basic health units and dispensaries for meeting urgent need. - Awareness sessions on health issues and conduct of ultrasound medical camps in coordination with district health department. - Provision of health services in coordination of health department for emergency response in district Layyah & Muzaffargarh. - Provision of volunteer to health department for independent monitoring of Polio vaccination campaign.
