become a partner The Pediatric AIDS Coalition (PAC) is a student run organization comprised of 140 UCLA undergraduate students, who, each year, gather around one cause to put on the largest student-run philanthropic event on the West Coast: Dance Marathon. Over 1,000 students participate in Dance Marathon, and each participant raises money for the fight against Pediatric AIDS, pledging to dance for twenty-six hours that are filled with entertainment, education, costumes, and kids. why pediatric aids? 2.1 million children under the age of 15 are living with HIV.* 13.4 million children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS.* In sub-saharan Africa, the center of the global epidemic, women and girls account for 59% of people living with HIV. Girls and young women account for 74% of new infections in sub-saharan Africa. 400 children are infected with HIV every day. Approximately, 333 of these infections are in Sub-Saharan Africa. Meet our beneficiaries elizabeth glasier pediatric aids foundation For our global community now The global leader in pediatric AIDS prevention, EGPAF seeks to prevent and eventually eliminate pediatric AIDS through innovative research, collaborative training initiatives, and global advocacy efforts. Since its inception in 1988, EGPAF has been an advocate for children to governments around the world, and is the international leader in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV. PAC s funds will go directly toward implementing care programs that prevent mother-to-child transmission and provide ARV regimens for those infected. Learn more at: www.pedaids.org PROJECT KINDLE For our local community now and for the future Project Kindle brings our cause a little closer to home. With locations in both California and Nebraska it provides a place where kids can experience a childhood free from the stigma surrounding HIV. Camp Kindle fully funds each camper s participation to ensure that any child who wants to attend has the opportunity to do so. 17% of PAC s funds will go toward funding Camp Kindle West, along with Kindle s SPEAK OUT (Sharing Personal Experiences and Knowledge, Our Unique Truths) outreach program. Learn more at: www.projectkindle.org UCLA AIDS INSTITU TE For the global community s future Following the discovery of AIDS at UCLA in 1981, the UCLA AIDS Institute was established in 1992, to provide a unique, multidisciplinary think-tank of over 200 of the world s top researchers who are assailing HIV from a dozen different disciplines and directions. The Institute is a global leader in research aiming to develop a safe and effective HIV vaccine, and is actively researching gene therapy as a potential cure for HIV infection. 12% of PAC s funds will go to the UCLA AIDS Institute, funding a seed grant. Learn more at: www.aidsinstitute.ucla.edu PAC s Community Advocacy Mentorship Program (CAMP) The direct service programs organized by PAC s Community Advocacy and Mentorship Program (CAMP) include three full-day Mentorships and one weekend-long Life Skills Retreat annually for children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Working with children of all ages, the Mentorships seek to sustain and strengthen the Project Kindle community as well as create new bonds with PAC. Our annual Life Skills Retreat, by contrast, provides workshops and advice specifically tailored to the needs of high school students. Here, we work to equip teens with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in upcoming life events such as: applying to college, entering the job market, and forming relationships. 1% of PAC s funds will go to CAMP s direct service programs. 70% 17% 12% 1%
