GM Transformation Themes in Taking Charge GM s STP

The Population Health Plan our approach to delivering a radical upgrade in population health Aims to re-orientate system towards prevention and a focus on population health Focused on people and places, utilises a life course framework Identifies what activity needs to be driven forward at GM level Aligned with wider reform and designed to support locality plan delivery Five themes and priorities tested extensively with the system 4

Devo & Cancer Vanguard: Innovation in Prevention System wide focus and at scale delivery Greater Insights into human behaviour to: Shift public and clinical behaviour towards early intervention and prevention plus unique collaboration with CO BIT Social innovation: creating a revolution in how people are involved in their own health and that of others Radical upgrade in lifestyle behavioural change via digital innovations

GM s Ambition: Smoking Prevalence of 13%

The GMPOWER Model for Tobacco Control Grow a Social movement for Tobacco free GM

Behavioural Insights & Screening Invite Letters Small changes = nudge behaviour = call to action Based on EAST framework- (Easy, Attractive Social and Timely) Outcome to increase response, bookings and attendance Scalable, low cost, manageable, immediate pragmatic improvements. Similar project for Australian Breast Screening delivered 2% increase in attendance

Example behavioural cervical screening postcard Risk and loss made salient Every year 700 women in the UK die from cervical cancer Postcard avoids friction cost of opening envelope, makes message salient and can be stuck on fridge as a reminder Clear call to action Book your NHS cervical screening today by calling [insert GP practice name] on [insert number] or your local clinic (see overleaf). My Appointment Date Time Location Stick me to your fridge! Planning prompt to help people visualise, plan for, and commit to their appointment

Cancer Vanguard Citizen-led social movement

Cancer Vanguard Citizen-led social movement Our Aim To catalyse and connect a grassroots, citizen-led social movement for cancer prevention by working through the voluntary sector. The two main objectives for this project are: To develop a network of 20,000 cancer champions over the course of the three years. To explore the use of digital technologies including social media to support the development of a social movement and mass involvement across the entire cancer prevention spectrum that is ultimately self-sustaining. Our Focus Supporting, harnessing and connecting the energy of the voluntary sector and GM citizens which is currently centred on cancer research, treatment and survivorship Understanding what motivates people to make lifestyle choices Drawing on the intelligence of communities that face health inequality Identifying ways to help change happen and scaling up collective action and campaigning A fully engaged population taking ownership and responsibility for their health and wellbeing A new relationship between citizen, state and society at the heart of devolution

Cancer Vanguard Citizen-led social movement Developing a new role of social movement champions. They will identify ideas for GM mass social movement action Developing a menu of easy ways to get involved e.g. GM spoken word campaign for bowel screening Recruiting new champions through the voluntary sector and partners Building a coalition of existing cancer champions Voluntary sector expert reference group a voice into GM and way to build wider momentum Supporting and growing the work of digital online champions 20,000 Cancer Champions Focusing on building on local examples of good practice
