MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, MSGH & ORGANISING CHAIRMAN, GUT 2008 It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to this year s GUT International Conference which will be held in Kuala Lumpur. We have invited a highly distinguished list of speakers of international renown from both across the shores as well as locally to help provide us with an update in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology. Scientific knowledge in the world of gastroenterology and hepatology continues to evolve at a rapid phase together with continuous development of new endoscopic and surgical techniques and associated clinical applications which greatly benefit our patients. Apart from helping us keep abreast with new scientific and clinical developments, the program that has been drawn up for this year s GUT conference has a healthy mix of medical and surgical topics that should provide us with educationally stimulating sessions benefiting all attendees. A half day GP program, which has previously been associated with positive feedback and a good response from all involved, has likewise been included. The latter will help provide us with an important platform to share our knowledge and experience with our primary care physicians as well as help to maintain the close rapport that is necessary in meeting our objective of continuum in multidisciplinary orientated patient care. I urge all the trainees and our colleagues to use this meeting as a means of presenting your scientific and clinical research data and encourage more applicants for the Young Investigator s Award. Do come and join us for this conference. YUNUS GUL 2
