Gives the reader a new perspective on how to view speech, language and communication issues whether it is in relation to developmental delay, learning difficulties or pervasive disorders like autism. The information given is relevant to the youngest child to the young adult. Describes Basic Components of Communicating Partners: Five Developmental Stages & Five Relationship Strategies. Loads of anecdotes and checklists. Bit heavy going in places. Some chapters such as Language Acquisition The Theories & From Sensations to Concepts are interesting but quite theoretical. The author knows her stuff about communication though! Great detailed chapters on Everyone!

The book helps teachers identify pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and plan a differentiated curriculum. Plummer Good resource book with an introductory section on Communication Well-Being & Playing as a Therapeutic Tool. The second section of the book provides activities and games with targeted developmental areas such as Memory, Self-Reliance, Topic Maintenance, Self-Awareness etc. Aimed for Children aged 4-11 with speech and / or language delay / disorder.

The Warning Signs, Understanding Report Jargon and the IEP, Understanding Speech Problems, Understanding Language Problems, Understanding Listening (Auditory) Problems Useful Q&A section This great book is aimed at teachers and assistants who support children with speech intelligibility issues (specifically, phonological difficulties) Great reference guide to typical speech development (when different sounds emerge) and what are normal speech errors for certain ages.
