Ancient Order of Hibernians 151 Watertown Street PO Box 11 Watertown, MA 02471 RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED JANUARY 2019 NEWSLETTER URGENT NOTICE INSIDE

Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 14 PO Box 11 Watertown, MA 02471 JANUARY 2019 NEWSLETTER AOH President s Message I hope that everyone had a Blessed and Merry Christmas with family and loved ones. I know that for some Christmas time can sometimes be difficult because of the loss of a loved one or someone couldn t make it home for Christmas. That is all the more reason to embrace those that you can and enjoy every moment. I would like to personally thank Bob McLaughlin, Jim Cunningham, Dick Thompson and Leo Falter for taking the time to visit legacy members that are in recovery and/or constant care and cannot venture out. We were able to visit a total of eight members of the LAOH and AOH Division 14 shortly before Christmas. We had another well attended Children s Christmas party, thanks to Heidi, VP Leo and all of Santa s helpers for all the hard work. The hall was full with members and family for the annual Children s Christmas party and by the looks of it all had a good time. Where did this past year go? This New Year, just like others, will bring with it new challenges to face, personally and professionally. We will have to endure the realities that life will present to us, the good and the bad. The question is how we will respond to these challenges! I hope that everyone will have at least one of your New Year s wishes answered sometime this year. As we settle in for what appears to be a very cold and dreary winter we are already planning the Division functions for Saint Patrick s Day, The Scholarship Social and Communion Breakfast. We have been blessed by the hard work of members that have stepped up to support the Division and Club Inc. business. Please consider getting involved as this is a shared responsibility for all and not just the few. As we deal with the harsh reality of Oldman winter please know that there is plenty of laughter and warmth at the club as we gather together to support our Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Please don t be a stranger. Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, 2

Dear Sisters, LAOH President s Message I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year! Our next meeting is not until March 11 so there is not much to report at this time. I will send updates and reminders as needed by email in the meantime. We need volunteers to judge the scholarship applications. Please refer to the calendar page for the date of the Scholarship Reception coming up in May. If you can help out, please let me know. We are hosting our Scholarship raffle again. The winner will be drawn on March 17 th. Chances are just $20 each and one lucky person will win $2000! One hundred chances will be sold. The winning number will coincide with the evening daily lottery number drawn in the Mass State Lottery on March 17 th. Please reach out to me to reserve your number. The State convention will be held in Falmouth at the Seacrest Resort from May 2-5, 2019. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. I will send more details later. Please continue to pray for our sisters and brothers who are ill or homebound. Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, Maureen Foley, President 3

Club Inc. President s Message Happy winter everyone. Seems to be arriving early this year. Please join us in the Member s Lounge for Patriots, Celtics and Bruins games. Plenty of room for all. The Club Inc. Annual Meeting and Election of Officers will be held on a Wednesday, January 23, 2019. The member s lounge can be rented by members (only) for smaller parties. The lounge is suitable for family and friends get togethers, birthday parties, fantasy league drafts, card parties, and the like. Inquire with the Rental Agent (Paul Connolly) for details. The Club executive board runs the member s lounge and maintains the building facilities on behalf of the membership. Please feel free to contact me or any other member of the board with any questions or issues you see regarding the property and building. On a final note, Happy New Year! Regards, Bob Casey 4
