Invitation and Program International Symposium Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy Thursday May 31, 2012, 09.00 18.00 Hotel Belvoir, Saal Belvoir, Rüschlikon, Switzerland Program Directors Corinna Brunckhorst, Zurich, Switzerland Firat Duru, Zurich, Switzerland Scientific Coordination Ruth Amstein, Zurich, Switzerland

Welcome Address Dear colleagues, It is our great pleasure to announce the first international symposium on Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) to be held in Rüschlikon, a suburb of the city of Zurich in Switzerland on May 31, 2012. ARVC is an important but often underestimated disease affecting about 3500 Swiss inhabitants who are usually diagnosed at a young age and are in need of a lifelong follow-up. In our opinion, given the challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with this heterogeneous disease, more emphasis needs to be given on clinical aspects of the disease and further research studies shall address the remaining questions. Therefore, we have initiated an ARVC Clinical and Research Program in Zurich in 2011 with close collaboration of other centers in Switzerland and abroad. In this context, we have organized this kick-off symposium and are extremely honored to welcome a large Swiss and international faculty of key opinion leaders in this field. The first session is an introduction to ARVC and reveals the background and pathophysiology of this heterogeneous disease. The second session focuses on the diagnostic aspects of the disease and aims to provide helpful insights in approaching the difficult-to-diagnose cases. The third session is dedicated to the therapeutic options in ARVC with expert recommendations for the optimal therapeutic strategy for the individual patient. The last session gives an outlook on future perspectives and current research activities. Last but not least, the platform of this meeting will be used to announce the details of the Georg and Bertha Schwyzer-Winiker Foundation ARVC Research Price, which will be awarded on a regular basis in the upcoming meetings. This symposium is designed for a broad medical audience, ranging from family physicians and clinicians in internal medicine and pediatrics to subspecialists in cardiology, imaging and genetics. Apart from traditional lectures, case-presentations will stimulate an interactive discussion with the aim to provide guidance in everyday practice. Patients with ARVC and family members might benefit from the symposium and are also very welcome to attend. We hope that the program attracts your attention and look forward to spending an interesting and stimulating day on ARVC. Corinna Brunckhorst, M.D. Firat Duru, M.D. Ruth Amstein, PhD.
