I m using the facebook group to post lots of links to jobs, alumni kudos, and special opportunities (Are you checking the group wall on a regular basis?) but it s been awhile since we talked. This issue is just for you! Chock full of information on what some of you ve been up to, and a few other things thrown in. Be sure to keep in touch. Enjoy! ALP is 15 years old in 2011. We re thinking about holding an ALP reunion in Rochester in Fall 2011 or Spring 2012. Current DMA student and Arts Leadership Program fellow Doug O Connor already has an established career, having performed in concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., including appearances at the Kimmel Center, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall. Doug is also the soprano saxophonist with the Red Line Sax Quartet, which has won gold medals at five major national and international chamber music competitions in the past year alone and recently released their debut album, "Back Burner." Hear what Doug has to say about his experiences with Red Line as well as being an Astral Artist, his commitment to community engagement, and what skills he has drawn upon from the Arts Leadership Program. Something to help pay the bills and get some great experience while she s doing all her other wonderful stuff! Betsy Fitzgerald (BM 99) is the new Executive Director of the Grand Opera House, part of Mercer University. She and her sister, Lynn Williams (BM 01), also recently performed a series of duo harp concerts in Georgia. Charlie Halloran (MM 08) is a proud citizen of New Orleans. He s making a living as a performer playing almost every night. He travels a lot, including recent trips to Borneo and Turkey. Showed up on a couple CD s. Catie Hickey (BM 07) is now a member of The Foothills Brass Quintet based in Calgary. Alison Lowell (BM 06) is in South Africa as principal oboist with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. Jeremy Maitland (MM 09) has accepted a position with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band in Edmonton. His wife, Leanne Dammann Maitland (MM 09), is dinishing up a degree at the University of Alberta. Anna Reguero (BM/BA 05)had a busy few weeks in June as one of the principal arts reporters/critics for the Democrat and Chronicle coverage of the Rochester International Jazz Festival. Check out her comments in the Rochester Arts Blog. Hillary Schefter (BM 07, MM 09) is competing for the second time in the Miss Colorado USA pageant. She is also a volunteer at St. Joseph s hospital in Denver, CO, where she plays twice a week for premature babies, parent and staff of the neonatal intensive care unit. The Preparatory Division of Mannes College The New School of Music is fortunate to have 2 positions recently dilled by ALP alums. Kate Sheeran (BM 02) is Director, and Kate White (MM 05) is Associate Director. Both continue to freelance in the New York area, Sheeran on horn and White on trombone. Erin McPeck (BM 09) enjoys living in Missoula, MT, where she is now working for the National Coalition Building Institute, a training organization for prejudice reduction. She continues to play bass with the Montana Lyric Opera and the Missoula Children s Theatre. (And occasionally runs into composer David Maslanka in the grocery store.) Andy Smith (MM 09) is the new Parts Manager at Conn-Selmer. Andy is a professional tubist, a brass repair specialist and is nationally recognized for his work on tubas, trombones, and euphoniums. Jeff Meyer (BM 04) was named principal tubist with the Springdield (MO) Symphony Orchestra for the 2010-2011 season. New World Symphony was pleased to hire Michael Frisco (BM 99) as their Director of Marketing. A busy year ahead for Michael as New World opens their new hall in Miami. Chris Van Hof (MM 08) continues to get accolades from his combined experiences as educator, performer, radio show host, arts ambassador and more. Read about Chris in one of Eastman s showcases. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra liked what they saw with the work Dylan Smith (BM 10) did as an ALP intern, and hired him as their Artistic Operations Assistant. Among his many responsibilities, Dylan is now also supervising an ALP intern. Composer and saxophonist David Crowell (BM 03) has had recent performances of his music with JACK Quartet, JerseyBand, NOW Ensemble and his own David Crowell Ensemble. David will also be performing as part of the Philip Glass Ensemble upcoming tour to Chile and Mexico. And last but certainly not least, Ben Warsaw (BM 05, MM 07) won 2 nd prize in a piano competition in Vienna, where he performed at the Yamaha Concert Hall. Something you d like to share?
