ESTSS 2019 The 16th European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Conference TRAUMA IN TRANSITION: BUILDING BRIDGES 14-16 June 2019 Conference Centre de Doelen Rotterdam, The Netherlands www.estss2019.eu info@estss2019.eu

Trauma in Transition: Building Bridges Introduction Registration Opens: October 1, 2018 Call for Abstracts: November 1 December 21, 2018 Early Bird Registration Deadline: March 1, 2019 Preconference Workshops: June 13, 2019 16th ESTSS Conference: June 14 16, 2019 Please direct any questions about abstract submission to: info@estss2019.eu On behalf of the organizing committee, Miriam Lommen (chair) Joanne Mouthaan (chair) Rianne de Kleine (program deputee) Marie-Louise Kullberg Karlijn Schöls Rick de Haart (committee assistants) This conference focuses on sharing our joint expertise, presenting and collecting knowledge and experiences relevant to the field of traumatic stress, by building bridges between different perspectives, disciplines and countries. Of special interest will be contributions closely related to the conference theme of interdisciplinary co-operation and knowledge transfer, and that touch upon some of the pressing challenges in our field: adequate and timely provision of evidence-based care to those in need. The rise in forced displacement of millions of people poses a critical challenge to national healthcare systems, in Europe and the rest of the world. As a result of the current influx of refugees seeking asylum and safety, countries face the daunting task of organizing and providing evidence-based mental healthcare for the psychosocial consequences of stressful and traumatic experiences related to forced displacement. This includes ways to provide appropriate care to people in transition within and between countries, such as technological advances in the field of e-health and m-health. For decades, we have collected knowledge on the transition of trauma between generations and the neurobiological mechanisms involved in traumatic stress responses; how can we use this knowledge to benefit prevention, treatment and policy making in these challenging times? How can clinical experience and insights from treatment inform fundamental research into neurobiological and cognitive mechanisms? How do we ensure that evidence-based practices are sufficiently available and appropriately disseminated? We invite submissions that provide scientific knowledge fitting one of the conference tracks of Assessment & Diagnosis, Biological & Medical, Child Trauma, Public Health, Transcultural & Diversity, or Intervention Research & Clinical Studies.

Presentation Guidelines Overall suggestion Of special interest will be contributions closely related to the conference theme of interdisciplinary co-operation and knowledge transfer. Bridges can be built between laboratory and clinic, countries, disciplines and career stages. The conference organizers highly recommend submitters to strive for diversity in their suggested contributions. Policies All suggested presentations should be original contributions, and ideally include new data. If data has been previously presented elsewhere, the suggested presentation should include new data or insights compared to the previous presentation. Only complete proposals will be evaluated (i.e. no drafts). All suggested contributions should be sufficiently detailed to evaluate its originality, relevance and quality. Accepted abstracts will be published in European Journal of Psychotraumatology (EJPT; 2017 impact factor 4.209). The tracks we have identified: - Assessment & Diagnosis - Biological & Medical - Child Trauma - Public Health - Transcultural & Diversity - Intervention Research & Clinical Studies Conference tracks The conference organizers are seeking to arrange for parallel tracks. Each track will focus on a specific area within the field of traumatic stress. By arranging parallel tracks conference attendees can attend consecutive session in the areas of their interest. Where possible, please identify which track a submission is intended for.

Pre-conference workhop (Note: These take place on Thu. June 13th, preceding the conference) Pre-conference workshops (half-day/ 3h or full-day/ 6h) will be given on the day preceding the conference, June 13th 2019. A workshop can address both clinical and research topics. The pre-conference workshop is given by experienced clinicians/ researchers in the selected topic. The nature of a workshop is interactive: attendees should be given the opportunity to actively participate in the workshops (i.e. practice new techniques and skills). Of note, for clinical workshops, topics that address empirically supported interventions will be prioritized. Title of workshop Three learning objectives Suggested level of required expertise Suggested background readings (e.g. papers, chapters, guidelines etc.) Brief background of relevant experience of those giving the workshop (max. 250 words)

Symposium A symposium addresses one general theme related to traumatic stress. Within each symposium there will be three sequential presentations, that all relate to the overall theme of the symposium. The three individual presentations will be introduced by a general introduction or discussed afterwards.thus, each symposium has a maximum of 4 presenters, of which one introduces or discusses the symposium. The length of the symposia will be 75 minutes. For each symposium the following roles need to be allocated: convenor, chair and individual presenter. Individuals can have multiple roles (i.e. be both the convenor and chair, or chair and presenter). Symposium submissions should include an outline of the general topic of the symposium and individual abstracts for the three presentations. The brief outline should specify whether the presentations are preceded by a general introduction are followed by a discussion. Convenors/chairs should provide: Title of symposium Overall outline (max. 150 words) Three learning objectives Moreover, each individual presenter should provide: Title of symposium Title of individual presentation

Masterclass A masterclass aims to increase participants understanding and skill in a particular area of interest. Masterclasses can address both clinical and research topics. The masterclass is given by an experienced clinician/researcher in the selected topic. The length of the masterclasses will be 75 minutes. Of note, for clinical masterclasses, topics that address empirically supported interventions will be prioritized. Title of masterclass Three learning objectives Suggested level of required expertise Suggested background readings (e.g. papers, chapters, guidelines etc.) Brief background of relevant experience of those giving the masterclass (max. 250 words)

Flashtalk A flash talk is a brief focused presentation on a topic pertinent to traumatic stress, typically including the presentation of novel research data. Each presentation will be limited to 5-minutes and 5 slides. Flash talks will then be presented in a grouping of 7 back-to-back talks. Each flash talk session will be designated as a featured presentation. Title of flashtalk Poster Presentation All posters should include (preliminary) research data on a topic related to traumatic stress. The conference organizers will schedule poster sessions throughout the conference. Each accepted poster will be scheduled within one of these sessions. This allows presenters to discuss their posters with conference attendees. Title of poster
