Chapter 11: Conquer Fear and Overwhelm to Live Mindfully in the Present Moment Fear, stress and worry comes from our perception of our lives. It is easy to allow our minds to become flooded with anxious thoughts, preoccupied with perceptions of the past and consumed with worries about the future. When you focus on your fears, you may become paralyzed and afraid of making the wrong choice. Acknowledging fear without giving it power allows you to move forward with courage and overcome obstacles. By acknowledging fears, calming worry and reframing your response from stress to calm truth, you free your mind from the unnecessary suffering caused by anticipation. Rather than be consumed by worry, choose to be curious and open to possibilities. Fearful thoughts often point you towards those things you need to address in order to grow personally, emotionally and spiritually. Having a positive outlook and staying focused on a clear vision of success allows you to access new ideas, opportunities, creativity and talents that support you in achieving your goals. This approach allows you to transform old, destructive patterns of fear and worry into expansive, joyful, passionate experiences of your true self.

As you chase a positive pursuit, you are energized by your alignment with your passionate purpose instead of being drained and suppressed by constantly struggling to avoid your fears. Acknowledging and clarifying your fears and doubts allows you to utilize them to guide you towards a path of joy and fulfillment. A fear which you have identified and verbalized has much less power over you than one that is lurking in your mind and heart. When you cultivate mindfulness and an ability to remain still in the present moment, you create stability which allows for a sense of perspective. You are able to focus away from hypothetical concerns that may develop in the future and instead remain in the present where you are aware of your thoughts and their consequences. Taking this stance helps you move from problem-generation to problem-solving. When you challenge your beliefs about who you are, what you are capable and what the world has in store for you, you can break down barriers that hold you back and open up space for personal growth. From an open-minded, calm stance in the present, you are able to see that there could be a positive outcome even to a negative event.

Fear arises out of and creates thoughts that can lead to. Worry is rarely productive as you fixate on and an amorphous future threat. Fear and worry also negatively impact our bodies, especially our systems. Stress is not a direct consequence of the circumstances we experience, but instead results from. Fear can serve as a showing you. Planning for success and positive outcomes begins when you. is fundamental to avoiding excessive worry.

Key Steps to Overcome Doubt and Go Beyond Fear to Make Effective Decisions: 1. Connect with yourself. a. trust your intuition b. get clear on your values and overarching vision 2. Face a decision or goal and make the best decision you can with the information and insights you currently have. 3. Remain in the present. 4. Face your fears. a. Accept and sit with your emotions b. Separate yourself from your fear and avoid all-or nothing thinking 5. Explore your fears and examine if they are realistic. a. What are the possible outcomes? b. How would/could cope with them? 6. Let go of baseless or uncontrollable fears.

7. Release the past and negative experiences and don t let them define your present and future. 8. Enjoy the process of moving forward. a. Change your attitude about outcomes, failure, obstacles and setbacks b. Embrace and allow change even if it seems frightening at first c. Look for newly opened up possibilities and opportunities

As you read this chapter and think on how these concepts apply in your life, take some time to reflect on the following questions. Allow yourself to write freely about each prompt below or in your journal. Try not to over-think your responses and simply listen to what arises within. What fears and worries do you have?

What are the sources of my fears?

How do you react to triggers of stress and overwhelm?

How do my fears impact my life?

What physical manifestations of fear and worry do you experience?

How does fear impact my decision making abilities?

What is causing me to fear this much?

Can you accept that fear is part of the journey and move forward anyway?

Mantras are a great way to remind yourself how you choose to create your life! Use them to embrace the truth of your powerful personal energy. Place them where you will repeatedly be reminded of your strength and intentions. Repeat them often. This sets the tone for the way you experience life and what you attract.
