The number of patients asking for high quality implant treatment is constantly growing, as well as the number of surgeons facing this challenge. One of the key factors for long term clinical success is the management of hard and soft tissues: reliable bone augmentation techniques and materials are therefore critical for satisfying patient s needs both in functionality and esthetics. Scientific research has made remarkable progress to define surgical techniques with satisfactory and predictable results; the biotechnology industry has contributed as well with significant improvements in the materials biological behavior and clinical handling. The objective of this symposium is to share the experiences of a group of researchers that has developed throughout the past twenty years a deep knowledge of bone biology, regenerative procedures, materials and soft tissue management. Our intent is to provide a solid scientific background to Guided Bone Regeneration, but also a clear approach to the different augmentation techniques, able to simplify the choices regarding your patient in order to achieve complex and successful implant rehabilitations. The great effort undertaken from the organizing committee will guarantee an event not to be missed: we look forward to welcome you in the prestigious and perfectly equipped Museu do Oriente Congress Hall at Alcântara, one of the most extraordinary locations in Lisbon. Prof. Adriano PIATTELLI Chairman Prof. Piattelli has coauthored about 490 papers in international peer-reviewed Journals; most of these papers have dealt with Implant Dentistry and Biomaterials. Prof. Piattelli main research interests have been immediate loading, bone response to different biomaterials, bone response in human implants retrieved in several different clinical and anatomic conditions.

T H E M U S E U D O O R I E N T E The founding purpose of the Museu do Oriente is as a permanent museological facility open to the public and run under the auspices of the Fundação Oriente. Its mission is the promotion of evidence whether of the Portuguese presence in Asia or the respective and distinct Asian cultures. The Museum is territorially international in scope and trans-disciplinary in approach seeking to, through the interchange of points of view deriving from the fields of History, Art and Anthropology, provide Portuguese and international visitors with a living and insightful memory of Asian cultures and the centuries old relationships established between the East and the West, particularly as regards Portugal. F I R S T E D I T I O N These thematic fields correspond to a diversified cultural heritage of historical, artistic, documental, ethnographic and anthropologic interest dealing not only with popular culture and Oriental religions but also the most varied aspects of the Portuguese presence in Asia throughout over five centuries. The facilities include an auditorium and foyer and the Macau room with access to a terrace looking out directly over the river Tagus in addition to five meeting rooms with differing capacities. Favourably located in the centre of Lisbon, right on the riverfront next to the Tagus the Meetings Centre of the Museu do Oriente brings together a unique environment for the holding of congresses, conferences, seminars, meetings, summits, product launch and events of cultural, scientific, business, commercial or social nature. Equipped with an auditorium and foyer as well as six rooms with differing capacity, the Meetings Centre is prepared to provide its clients with a large spectrum of facilities intended to grant the success of any event. Given the proximity with the museum, clients may combine their events with the cultural offering of the museum itself.
