Nutritional requirements Eatwell plate, 5-a-day, government healthy eating guidelines. Public health sources National Health Service, Food Standards Agency, British Nutrition Foundation. Nutritional terminology Guidline Daily Amount (GDA), Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA), glycemic index. Digestive system: Functions of digestive system ingestion, movement of food, digestion, absorption, excretion. Structure and function mouth, tongue, salivary glands, teeth, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, kidneys, digestive juices and enzymes. Learning outcome 2: Know energy intake and expenditure in sports performance Energy intake and expenditure: Energy measures (calories, joules, kilocalories, kilojoules), energy value of macronutrients, components of energy expenditure (Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), physical activity level), energy requirements and expenditure for different sport and exercise activities, estimating daily calorie intake and expenditure.
