Comprehensive didactic instruction pertaining to autogenous block and particulate bone grafting as well as allogeneic block grafting for horizontal and vertical ridge augmentation will be provided. Additionally, sinus lift, extraction and immediate implant placement procedures will be practiced. The indications, preparation, dose, and proper use of rhbmp-2 and PRP for oral grafting procedures will also be discussed and practiced. Day 1: Day 1 will focus on oral autogenous bone harvesting and applications, as well as allogeneic block graft applications. A cadaver dissection demonstrating pertinent anatomy, surgical access, harvesting techniques, application of block and particulate bone, fixation techniques, and soft tissue management will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced. Day 2: Day 2 will focus on the sinus lift/bone grafting procedure, extraction and immediate implant placement, as well as the use of adjunctive growth factors including recombinant human bone morphogeneic protein, platelet rich plasma, and bone marrow aspirate concentrate. Participants will undergo instruction and demonstration of the mentioned procedures and will be able to perform all of the procedures on fresh tissue specimens. COURSE GOALS 1. Improve participant s understanding and surgical skill in ridge augmentation and sinus augmentation grafting 2. Allow participants to select graft materials as reviewed in evidence based literature 3. For participants to incorporate tissue engineering principles into their practice 4. For participants to choose and place dental implants appropriate for the available alveolar ridge COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: 1. Describe the anatomic factors involved with safe and effective ridge augmentation 2 Gain competency of surgical approaches for ridge augmentation, application of bone grafts, sinus lift augmentation, and soft tissue management to maximize success 3. Gain familiarity with adjunctive growth factors enhancing successful socket grafting and ridge augmentation 4. Devise steps to prevent and manage complications involved in ridge augmentation and sinus lift procedures with dentoalveolar reconstructive techniques 5. Demonstrate dentoalveolar reconstructive techniques on fresh tissue specimens

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF TMJ PROCEDURES E.G. ARTHROCENESIS, ARTHROSCOPY, AND TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF RIGID FIXATION FOR FACIAL FRACTURES March 16-17, 2014 (Sunday Monday) OVERVIEW This two day course is designed for residents, fellows, and all practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeons who wish to enhance their understanding and techniques used to treat temporomandibular joint disorders. A comprehensive didactic lecture series will be offered using a case presentation format. TMJ diagnosis, treatment planning, access, and specific techniques will all be reviewed. Following the didactic portion, a fresh cadaver hands on practicum will be used to execute the procedures which were reviewed for arthrocentesis, arthroscopy, and total joint replacement. A major challenge facing practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeons today is the management of facial trauma encompassing open reduction and rigid fixation for simple as well as complex facial fractures. The second portion of the course will cover surgical access and rigid plate fixation for fractures involving the mandible and maxilla. These same principles will then be applied in the cadaver lab to establish a full understanding of the approach used for successful fracture reduction. Day 1: Will focus on the specifics of assessing TMJ radiographs and scans as well as clinical examination points such that an accurate diagnosis can be established. Details of arthrocentesis, arthroscopy and total TMJ replacement surgery will then be discussed and practiced in the cadaver lab. Day 2: Will focus on specific surgical approaches and rigid fixation techniques for facial fractures. Lectures will address the anatomy, common surgical approaches, advanced surgical approaches, and techniques for all mandibular fractures, as well as fractures involving the frontal bone, naso-orbital-ethmoid (NOE), zygomatic maxillary complex (ZMC), orbit, and all Lefort type fractures. Following the lecture, participants will perform the various surgical access and fixation techniques in the cadaver lab. Participants will gain extensive practice in performing each TMJ and trauma related procedure. COURSE GOALS 1. For participants to understand the principles and techniques of facial access and the placement of rigid fixation plates in order to optimize results and gain long term stability 2. For participants to understand the principles and techniques of the various temporomandibular joint procedures in common use today COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the participant surgeon should be able to: 1. Gain the knowledge and understanding of facial access and application of rigid fixation plates to achieve appropriate reduction and stable fixation to maximize successful outcomes in facial trauma management 2. Diagnose, treatment plan, and perform the various temporomandibular joint procedures covered in this course
