Proud Lions News THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE MANASSAS LIONESS LIONS CLUB DEC 2018 web: thoseladylions.org - email: thoseladylions@gmail.com PRESIDENTS BLOG MLLC PRESISIDENT PAM CARPENTER Christmastime is upon us and the end of the year is near! I regret having to leave the position of being your president. Rhonda Thompson, presently our VP, will be taking over for me in January. I hope you will show her as much support as you ve shown me during my time as President. I will stay on in the VP position until such time as my company closes up shop and I head for a new job in Florida. Thanks for all your support and HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS SEASON! DINNER MEETING DEC 17 SILLY SANTA IS COMING TO TOWN! Our December Meeting will be a buffet, and the Program will be a "Silly Santa" Gift Exchange. No formal dinner meeting in December it ll be all fun and games on Monday night, December 17 when the Manassas Lioness Lions hold their annual Holiday Party. So bring along a friend, your spouse or significant other and a gift for the Silly Santa gift exchange and c mon out to City Tavern! Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with the buffet around 7. Please let Lion Tamer Rhonda know you are attending and if you are bringing a guest(s). Guest dinners will be $17 each. RSVP to Rhonda at rft60@yahoo.com. Here's how Silly Santa works: Items for the Silly Santa gift exchange should be about $15 in value, and wrapped. Both MLLC members and their guests can participate. Whoever wants to join in the fun can just bring along a gift to exchange and you ll be given a number designating your place in the sequence for choosing a package. Come all ye joyful to the Annual Silly Santa and Buffet on December 17 at the City Tavern. Social at 6:30, Dinner at 7PM. See you there!!!! SPECIAL REMINDER: Bring some small bills to add to the collection, as December is TIP MONTH FOR AMANDA! Our waitress always takes really good care of us and we want to show our appreciation.

MEMBERSHIP GAIL COOPER, DIRECTOR Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of our Lion Membership! Monday, December 17th is our last meeting and Holiday party for 2018. Let's invite some friends and acquaintances we've been meaning to extend an invitation to recently. I believe they will enjoy being with our club members and sharing the holiday spirit with us. Just Ask! Enthusiastically, Gail Cooper Membership Director SIGHT & HEARING MELISSA STOLTZ, DIRECTOR The sight and hearing committee is pleased to announced two more children were able to receive glasses thanks to our Club; we have received another application for another child who will be getting glasses soon. Bingo was a great success both at Willow Oats and Caton Merchant. Special thanks to Lions Gail, Beth, Linda, Mary Ellen and Pat! Without you I couldn't do this project! More residents played at each location so over 80 prizes were given at each location! We are running short of stuffed animals so please contribute if you can! More glasses were collected at Walmart to send to Park West for their recycle program. COMMUNITY SERVICES BETH ORAVEC, DIRECTOR Diabetes Awareness bookmarks were delivered to the free clinic operated by the George Mason nursing students. Plans are to also deliver bookmarks to the local library for distribution to the public. Childhood Cancer - One dozen blankets were delivered to the Pediatric Cancer Unit of INOVA hospital in Fairfax. Thanks to all members who participated in this project. They are really needed and the children love them. Also, the board approved again this year to continue the toy collection for the hospital and approved $200 from the club's treasury to support the project. Members are asked to bring donations to the December dinner meeting. The Wish List was distributed at the November dinner meeting with suggestions and approved items, and is also included below. There are many non-toy items that are needed such as arts and crafts, DVDs, books and toiletries. Lion Beth will be sending out a reminder soon along with the Wish List. Please don't forget the children and families struggling with cancer.

DECEMBER S GNO WILL BE AN ORNAMENT EXCHANGE For Girls Night Out in December a potluck dinner and Christmas ornament exchange! ($10 value) Melissa Stoltz has graciously offered to host the event at her home at 11517 Albrite Ct, Manassas, on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. Bring along a potluck dish to share so we can enjoy some good food and conversation while we swap ornaments. Please RSVP to Melissa by ASAP, so she knows who s coming and who s bringing what dish. What a fun way to get the holiday season underway!

PILL BOTTLE COLLECTION This year we will be collecting empty pill bottles. There will be a collection box at the meeting. Please remove the labels if possible. You can do this by submerging the bottle in a pot of boiling water if it doesn t easily peel off. If there s still a little sticky residue on the bottle, lemon essential oil will easily remove it. The bottles will be collected and sent to other countries where such bottles are not readily available. MY LION APP LCI has created the MyLion Application for all to register on your Smart phones or Tablets using your Lion Member Number. They are changing the world it has never been easier (or more fun!) We will be able to create our personal profile to upload/download photos, list badges you can earn, find other Clubs, post your comments, photos, etc. Lion Beth, our new Service Activity Chairperson will be putting info on there every time we do an event, or want to list an upcoming event, etc. It s supposed to keep all we do recorded in a timely fashion. Strong encouragement to get registered, as the MyLion app will serve as the contact for getting our info recorded with LCI in the future. MyLion is being launched in October and will REPLACE MyLCI by July, 2019 MyLion will be the only way to register info with LCI. BINGO The next Bingo will be held January 10 at Caton Merchant, and January 28 at Willow Oaks, 6:30-7:30 PM. Help is needed! Please contact Melissa Stoltz at melissa.stoltz1@gmail.com to volunteer. RECYCLING Please bring all your items eligible for recycling to the dinner meeting and give them to Chair Karen Thompson or contact Karen at BETKZT@aol.com if you have questions.
