FEBRUARY 2017 Happy Valentine s Day to one and all, but especially our lovely Chapter XXI ladies. Let s start off with an apology for the errors that were in the last newsletter. Specifically, the date for the next meeting in Wildwood should have been 10,11,&12 March, not as they were listed. I am totally responsible for that mistake, and apologize if anyone was inconvenienced. Speaking of the meeting, see the corrected information in newsletter and please make your hotel reservation and send your choice of menu to Russ Cummings, our host for this meeting. At the meeting, we will vote to approve the minutes of the December Meeting. A copy of those minutes can be found in this news letter. There will be one correction to be voted on. A reminder this is an election year. To date, no one has approached me and expressed a desire to run for office. Come on guys, let s be stepping forward and serve the Chapter. We have one new member to report. He was recruited by Brian Vines. Thanks Brian. Gary D. Crossman, D-6106 405 Victoria Hills Dr. DeLand, FL 32724 386-738-3987 gcrossman@cfl.rr.com I met a man the other day who used to be an associate member and said he wants to join us, but he has failed to get in touch with me. I received a nice note from Cliff Newman, thanking us for our donation of $2000.00 to help with the rebuilding of the headquarters. Richard Whitman, President

Al and Toni Boman: I spoke with Al who told me that Toni is progressing and is scheduled to return home on 8 Feb. (It has been 11 months 2 weeks since Toni suffered the stroke.) Toni, we all wish you the Very Best and a great recovery. Cards may be sent to: 2326 Graves Place, The Villages, FL 32162-3473. 2. Bob Cherry: I spoke with Marianne who informed me that Bob was recovering from surgery and is now hospitalized with pneumonia. Bob, we all wish you a speedy, full recovery. Cards may be sent to: 2494 Adler, The Villages, FL 32162-5002. 3. Harry Denny: Harry sent a note with his dues stating he had just come home from the hospital after being bitten by a dog. Harry, we all wish you a speedy recovery. (NOTE: I have not been in contact with Harry to find out how he is doing or if he bit the dog back...tom) 4. Bob (Rob, Jo) Johansen: Jo reports that he just cheated death 3 times. On 26 Jan. he collapsed as they were leaving a function. He was revived by local EMT and sent home. Early morning of the 27th he awoke with abdominal pain and considering what happened the previous day, went to their local hospital where he was admitted and checked out. The doctors told him he had atrial fibrillation. They kept him overnight for observation, but the next day he went into ventricular fibrillation, stopping all blood flow to and from the heart, causing a "code blue" and again getting revived. The doctors realized they were not equipped to handle this situation (in the Keys) so they flew him (helicopter) to Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami. There, in the ICU, with Janet visiting, Jo again went into ventricular fibrillation with all elements shutting down. With Janet watching, they again, for the third time revived Jo. On Monday the 30th, Dr. Berger, who by chance or good fortune, put three stents into his heart thirteen+ years ago, went in and rotor rooted (his words) one of the old stents and put in two more. They put Jo into a drug induced coma for 3 days. He was in ICU for another day, then a regular hospital room. There, the nurses/attendants assisted him in walking some and slowly weening him off oxygen and the various "drips" he was on. Jo was released from the hospital on Thurs, 2 Feb. He and Janet stayed overnight in Miami, before returning to Summerland Key. At home he is now walking, slowly building his strength back up. Jo, It was NOT your Time, for which we are all very Thankful. We all wish you a healthy, speedy, full recovery and are looking forward to seeing you and Janet at the March meeting. 5. Doug Morse update Richard Whitman went to see Doug. He is out of the hospital and in rehab. He plans on being at the March meeting. Great news! Rehab contact info: 407-281-1070, Room 309.
