IT S YOUR WORLD Volume 1, Issue 4- September, 2016 Teacher s Message We finally had our first cleanup on Saturday, August 27 th! Twenty-one people (students and teachers) showed up and, after a delayed start due to burrito distribution and trying to find parking so we could take an excited picture near our sign, we got-togathering! Good thing we took the picture at the beginning of the day because by the time we were done, we were red-faced and disheveled. It was so worth it though. By the end of the day students and teachers alike felt as if they had really done something. We had made a difference. We found toys, marbles, bottles, a T.V., tons of cigarette butts, and even $10! On our second cleanup we had 31 people come to help out. This included people from the art classes, EPCC students, teachers, and the Robotics team. We still have 7 more cleanups, so if you re interested in helping us out, we would greatly appreciate it. Once again, the students have worked very hard on this newsletter, so have a look and thanks for your interest in this endeavor! CLEAN UP BEGINS! Below is a list of the cleanup dates. If you, your organization, or someone you know would be interested in participating, you must text, call or e-mail me to let me know. I need to schedule you and also send you cleanup details prior to the event to make sure you and/or your team is prepared. For more information regarding sign-up for clean-up dates please contact Candace Printz at cprint@sisd.net or at (915) 731-6271.

Cleanup Dates: Saturday, August 27th, 8am- Saturday, September 3rd, 8am- Saturday, September 10th, 8am- Saturday, September 17th, 8am- Saturday, September 24th, 8am- Saturday, October 1st, 8am- Saturday, October 8th, 8am- Saturday, October 15th, 8am- Saturday, October 22nd, 8am- Saturday, October 29th, 8am- GoFundMe-We Made It!!! By: Jazmin Paz We were filled with excitement as we hit our $1,000 mark! The Paso del Norte Foundation will generously donate that matching value now that we have met our goal. Your donations were/are greatly appreciated, as they will now go towards art supplies, safety equipment, and helping so many of our local non-profits. Thank you to everyone that donated, the one individual that took us over the edge, & to anyone that helped by sharing our page. https://www.gofundme.com/22jqfxgs Thank you for helping us!

TFCU Supply-Drive By: Valeria Flores Photo by: Brenda Mejia One sponsor in particular that we would like to thank is the Teachers Federal Credit Union; they have supported our project as well as many others within the community. Generously, they held a supply drive, procuring our project both monetary and in-kind donations. The supplies we received were greatly appreciated and desperately needed for us to spread our wings. We are so grateful to TFCU for aiding us in our endeavor. Below, Dana Cassolopez from the Teachers Federal Credit Union, gives her thoughts on the project: IYW - Why have you chosen to support us in this endeavor? Dana Cassolopez - The project is unique and is going to benefit a lot of people. Not just the community that lives by the piece of land that we will be cleaning up, it will also be an educational experience for the El Dorado students and others involved, and finally the money raised from the art pieces will go to good causes. IYW What end results do you expect? Dana Cassolopez - I am hopeful that it is a meaningful experience for everyone involved. I hope the art pieces are fabulous and are sold for top dollar to benefit the causes. IYW Is there anything you would like to add? Dana Cassolopez - TFCU is a community partner with many organizations, and when I saw this opportunity to help be a partner I jumped at it. Recently, the TFCU employees had a supplies donation drive for the different items that will be needed, and we collected quite a bit of supplies. We will be delivering it along with some cash to El Dorado on Thursday morning. Additionally, we hope to have a TFCU volunteer day during the project. Photo by: Jazmin Olivas We would like to give another big thanks to the Teachers Federal Credit Union for their support and donations; we really appreciate their help and hope they enjoy the outcome of the project!

Our First Cleanup: What a Success! By: Jazmin Paz After several months of anticipation, the El Dorado It s Your World Team held its first official cleanup on Saturday, August 27 th, and what a success it turned out to be! Suited up in fluorescent orange safety vests, the members of It s Your World set out to begin their site s widespread cleanup. Initially, many did not know what to expect and were maybe even a bit hesitant, but after a successful day s work out in the desert and then back at school, the members headed home happy-hearted knowing they made a difference in their community. Ms. Printz, the coordinator of the It s Your World project stated, I m excited that all the ideas and planning are now coming to life. I can tell based on the first cleanup that we re going to have fun and do so many great things this year. I encourage more people to join us in this effort. Photo by: Jazmin Olivas The members found and picked up lots of trash that was later taken back to El Dorado to be washed and sorted. At the desert, they played the searching game, as each person was assigned to collect a different material plastic, glass, metal, paper, and non-reusable trash that even turned a bit competitive between some members. Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition! One of our photographers, Priscilla Gonzalez, said, I thought it was great to see a group of people making a difference in their own community. It s a wonderful feeling knowing that anyone can be a part of this project and I m really glad that I am. Saturday, August 27th marked the start of a new chapter in such a magnificent story.
