Feel good about care But the aims of this first visit are 3 fold: i) To get to know you (and for you to know us).
ii) iii) Bringing your partner To identify what is causing your pain. To explain to you what is wrong, why it has not improved on its own and how we will help you with it. If at all possible, it s a good idea to bring your partner with you to your first appointment. This is good for your support network at home and also helps them to understand your condition. Chronic Problems The term Chronic does not mean Chronically bad ; it means that a problem has been present for over 12 weeks. If your problem has been present for a long time then it is still likely we can help, but in these cases changes have usually occurred which mean that you will then benefit from less frequent care after you initially improve to help you manage the problem over your future. Left alone, longer standing pain tends to: Worsen with time Affect people s quality of life Be due to changes that have occurred around joints Improving these problems: With effective management it is likely that you will see wonderful improvement in your symptoms. You will likely regain some of the things you would like to do with your life and manage your condition over ensuing years. Living or existing? Our patients are people who want to Live life rather than exist without being able to do things they love or need to do. We help a great many people who have longer standing pain. Short term care Vs Long term management Keeping you in the Green.. Where are you on the scale above? It s likely that you are at the red end of that scale. New problems can be treated and most will reach Fully healed and therefore not necessarily occur again. However, most problems we see are much longer standing. If you have a longer standing problem, once identified and treated and the right stretches and exercises have been given to you, your symptoms are likely to have dramatically improved. Chronic problems usually involve damage and changes to parts of your spine that will never fully return to how they were before. Therefore, it s necessary to manage these problems over the longer term. It s time to make a decision about What you want out of life? More time in the Green or more time In the red? However, not yet in Wales.
Chiropractic is viewed as an Allied Health profession rather than Alternative therapy. Evidence supports the use of Chiropractic care across many different conditions, including those that cause both acute and chronic low back pain and is also indicated in the treatment of neck pain and specific headaches, (NICE, 2010). At Precision, we are also able to effectively manage many other conditions, including arm and leg pain and sports injuries. We frequently see patients who are experiencing upper back pain, but the problem is in the neck, or arm pain that is actually coming from the shoulder etc. This is why we always perform a thorough examination and case history with you first in order to reach the right diagnosis. For many patients, even though they may have had pain for a long time, this is often they hear a clear explanation of what is wrong and how it can be helped. Symptoms can be misleading, we find the hidden cause So why won t one treatment fix everything? Our body is not a machine, we can t simply replace a broken part. If the body is damaged it needs time too heal. Also there can be further consequences to injury. For example, if you have ever had a leg in plaster you will know that when the plaster is removed the leg can be very thin and weak due to lack of use. Many times pain emanates from a place quite far away from where it is felt. A simple example of this is Sciatica in which the pain is felt in the leg, but the problem is usually in the low back. The same thing happens in the spine (or any other joint). If part of the spine is not working properly, then some of the muscles will be weak. The same is actually true with many problems that affect your body.
Your role in the healing process If you have a course of care and do all of the things you are advised, especially the exercises, you will probably feel better in many different ways. Each time you have an adjustment your joints improve and with the right exercises, your muscles strengthen. If you then stop all treatments and exercises, but continue with your normal life (which usually caused the problem in the first place), what do you think would happen? Your body gradually regains it s normal function. If you have inflammation and nerve interference, this also has to recover. It takes time to heal. Even when the pain goes your joints are in a fragile state. It easy to damage them again when there is no pain to remind you of the injury. Is Chiropractic just about pain? No. Whilst pain is understandably of great concern to a patient, pain is simply a symptom telling you that something is wrong. Pain is often the last thing to arrive and with effective management, the first thing to disappear. If you choose to maintain your improvements and joint function, then you can look forward to feeling much better. Each patient and condition is different, but may people benefit from maintenance care about once a month to once every 3 months. Together, we make the difference.
Chiropractic care is a partnership, it is important to follow the advice your chiropractor gives you. In return, we will make sure we provide you with the best possible care. You are not paying for treatment; you are paying for Management of your condition. The winning formula is simple: You do your bit+ we do our bit = You will feel (and stay feeling) much better!
