Through the generous contributions of our donors, the YMCA of Calhoun County is able to provide financial assistance that enables all members of the community to enjoy YMCA programs, regardless of income.

YMCA of Calhoun County Youth Summer Sports Camps saw a 102% increase in participation during the summer of 2014. KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE The CDC reports that fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children age 1-14. The Y strives to reduce this devastating statistic. Studies show that participation in formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning in children age 1-4 by 88%. The YMCA of Calhoun County is proud to offer swim lessons for all skill levels and ages- as young as 6 monthsthroughout the year. Swim Lesson enrollment increased by 12% in 2014 at the YMCA of Calhoun County. To increase safety efforts, a Junior Lifeguarding program was added to the curriculum, and the Y continues to provide Water Safety Courses for Foster Parents as needed.

YMCA of Calhoun County is proud to provide a safe environment for children under the care of Child Watch. The program continues to benefit our members, providing a comforting space for children while parents utilize our facility. Two YMCA of Calhoun County High School Swim Team members received college swimming scholarships in 2014: Mikey Monday and Elon Bush (pictured below.) Monday was also our first ever swimmer to qualify for YMCA Nationals in 2014. A triple bypass ended my running career...silversneakers has brought me back to an enjoyable life. I m working out at the Y four days a week at a comfortable level. -SilverSneakers Member (not pictured)

2014 ANOTHER GREAT YEAR Studies show that children who spend time in After School programs have better grades, better work habits and more positive relationships with their peers. YMCA of Calhoun County is pleased to have enriched the lives of 431 children through After School Academy in 2014....I wouldn t have been able to do it by myself...it s financially hard to make ends meet...ymca scholarship has been such a great help to my daughter and me. -After School Academy Parent Under a partnership with Anniston City Schools, Cobb, Golden Springs, and Tenth Street schools were added to YMCA After School Academy in 2014, contributing to a 12% increase in enrollment.

In 2014, we offered 5,697 people- over one-third of them childrenthe tools and support they needed to learn, grow and thrive. At the Y, we believe our community is strongest when we give people from all walks of life the opportunity to grow in spirit, mind and body. It takes all of us, combining our unique gifts and talents, to make a lasting impact in our community. We hope this annual report offers a glimpse of what s possible when dedicated individuals join our cause of strengthening community. Through our shared commitment to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility, our Y will continue to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve health and well-being and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors in need. To you, our volunteers, donors, friends and staff, we extend our deepest gratitude.
