June is National Men s Health Month Hosted by Men s Health Network since 1992, the month of June is dedicated to enriching men s health and wellness through a broad spectrum of national screening and educational campaigns. Men s Health Week is celebrated during the week leading up to and including Father s Day and serves as a time to raise awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men. The week also includes Wear Blue Friday on June 17: you can show your support and encourage your colleagues to wear something blue to show concern for the health and well-being of men. ******************************** Our Senior Center Renovation is nearing its end and we are so excited. Along with our newly remodeled building we would like to have new furnishings for the Café area. We are taking up a fund to be able to purchase 4 tables and 24 chairs. MAY BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS We had a great time at the May birthday luncheon! Our Vice President Pat Arthur had the opportunity to lead this meeting in Goldie s absence this month. Great job Pat! We had Karen Edmonds as our guest speaker this month. Karen is the coordinator for the National Family Caregiver Support Program for FRA. Karen spoke to us about some of the senior programs available through FRA and shared a little about each one. I have more information if anyone is interested. Additionally, she provided us with a Senior Community Resource list so if anyone would like a copy of that stop by and see me. Senior Recognition Day 2018 *********************************************** Senior Recognition Day A day set aside to honor you. Around 400 seniors attend this event each year for a celebration of seniors, Lifetime Fitness, Outstanding Senior Volunteer awards, and a luncheon. This is a great event to get out and fellowship with each other and talk to senior resources in our area. If you missed this year, please mark your calendar and plan to attend next May. You can tell the quality of a community by how they treat their seniors, special guest Gov. Bill Walker said. No one does it better than Fairbanks. Our very own Pat Thurman was a recipient this year of the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award! There will be a QOV presentation on June 14th At Davis Hall-Lions Bingo Hall @ the Fair- Grounds Event will begin at 6pm Casual dress All are welcome to attend and help honor our Vets. There will be a spaghetti dinner provided so please let us know if you plan to attend so we can plan accordingly.
