Keep Safe Sub- Group Minutes from the meeting on Thursday 7 th April 2016 at County Hall Present People who came to the meeting Darren Goddard Anita Chavda Fiona Campbell Liz Clarke Linda Wright Annie Johnson Louise Patterson Jane Gibson Alix Glazier Karen Rebecca Jinks (Minutes) Police (Chair) Parent / Carer Personal Assistant Self Advocate Self Advocate Charnwood Personal Assistant Apologies Who could not come to the meeting Gurjit Samra-Rai Renata Sziget HFT Dawn Shepherd Jenny and Russell Self Advocate Notes of the last meeting Leicestershire Fire and Rescue The group were still unsure of what was happening with the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Darren e- mailed Andrew Brodie who works there about it and Andrew said that the Public consultation for it finished in December 2015. Andrew said that a lot of the things they were going to do to try and save money, they weren t going to do anymore, as they didn t need to save that much money after all.

The group talked about the actions from the last meeting and which ones still needed to be done. Actions: 1. Alix is going to find out what has happened to all of the Trading Standard packs 2. Fiona is going to e-mail the CERT Co-ordinator about doorstop stickers. 3. Darren is going to ask Gurjit why Julian Robertson didn t come to this meeting. 4. Annie is going to find some information about the new technology in care homes that is now working very well. Annie said she would send this to Darren and Rebecca. 5. Fiona is going to find out about what assistive technology there is and who can have it. Warning Zone Visits Darren told everyone that none of the locality groups had said they would like to go to Warning Zone. Alix thought that there should be more promotion about it. Darren said that Warning Zone hasn t got a video that they could show people so people would just need to tell everyone about it. Anita said she would find out what information is sent to schools about it as maybe we could use that. Anita also said that she would talk to Gurjit and CERT again about who would like to go to Warning Zone. 1. Anita is going to talk to Gurjit and CERT to find out who would like to go to Warning Zone. Public Transport Darren told the meeting that he had been to a meeting at City Hall with the Leicester City Council and Bus people. He said they talked about Safer Journey Cards and all of

the Bus people liked it. They have also asked us to design a poster that will help keep people safe on buses. Bus pass wallets are going to be re-made and when someone buys a bus pass, they will get a wallet. People who already have a bus pass will be given a wallet when they are ready. Darren also told the group that before the new bus station opens at the Haymarket in Leicester, people could go and have a look around it first and that maybe there could be a Keep Safe Place there too. Fiona talked about some worries that people at another group had talked about not feeling safe at the Bus Station in Harborough. Fiona said that this was reported to the Police and along with the Council they sorted this out very quickly. Fiona told the group that it was very important to tell someone if they have any worries like this. Action 1. Alix is going to send her comments about the buses to Gurjit and Darren Keep Safe Update Anita told the group about Leicestershire County Council s new website. Anita said that there was a section for Keep Safe Places on there but there were no pictures. Anita also said that were not able to put contact names on the website but we could put the opening times of Keep Safe Places on it. We also were not allowed to put any logos onto the website but we could put a link on it to the National Keep Safe Website. Anita asked the group to look at the Leicestershire County Council website to see what information they could find on Keep Safe and to tell everybody about it at the next meeting.

1. Everyone to look at the website and see what information they can find on Keep Safe and to talk about what they found at the next meeting. The Keep Safe dvd is now old. We will look at re-doing it in the future. The group were asked to tell people to make sure that they put the Keep Safe Stickers where people can see them. Darren told everyone that they would need to look at their computer settings themselves so that they can keep them safe. There is a Police presentation on computer safety and Darren said that he would e-mail the CERT team for all of the dates for the locality meetings so that the presentation could be shown at them. 1. Darren is going to e-mail CERT for the locality groups dates. Hate Crime Anita said that the National Hate Crime Week was happening in October 2016. Anita asked everyone to think about what they could do for this week and to see if their locality groups could come up with any ideas that would help raise awareness around hate. One idea was that the rap video that Annie and Louise did could be used if the people in it let them. Annie said she would ask Jess about this. Actions: 1. Everyone is to think about what they could do for the

National Hate Crime week in October 2016 2. Annie is going to ask Jess about using the rap video on hate. Anything else we want to talk about Charity Collectors Darren told the group that we could tell people what to say to a charity collector if they didn t want to give them money. Charity collectors is going to be added to future agendas so we can talk about what is good and bad behaviour. Volunteering Alix told the group that she, Russel and Ellie Bruce had been to help the Police with some interview training. Alix said that this was to help the Police get better at talking to people. Darren said they were looking for some more volunteers as this was really helpful for the Police and helped them help other people. Darren said he would send everyone the information about this. Darren is going to send out some information about helping the Police in their interview training. Date of Next Meeting: Thursday 16th June 2016 10:30 am 12:30 pm County Hall
