WORKSHOP ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT) AND RELATIONAL FRAME THEORY (RFT): CLINICAL APPLICATION January, 25 th -26 th 2016 9.00 am-1.00 pm/2.00-6.00 pm TRAINER: DR. NIKLAS TÖRNEKE Basic learning principles have been applied to psychological treatments of various kinds for decades. Many recent models, within the wide family of cognitive behavioral therapies, have given new emphasis to these well known principles. This holds true for models like Behavioural Activation, Functional Analytical Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) holds a special position among those models as it is based on a behavioural account of human language and cognition, Relational Frame Theory (RFT). This workshop will illustrate basic behavioural principles with a special emphasis on RFT and its clinical implications, both as a way to understand psychological problems and to treat them in the way this is done in ACT. Even though focus will be on ACT, the proposed therapeutic strategies can also be used within any form of psychotherapy. The presentation will be mostly didactic but will include demonstrations of basic clinical strategies and techniques. Learning Objectives: The theoretical framework: functional contextualism Human language and cognition from a behavioural point of view: basic principles of Relational Frame Theory (RFT) Understanding clinical problems from the perspective of learning principles with a special focus on Relational Frame Theory Examples of common psychological problems and clinical diagnosis Presentation of clinical interventions based on principles discussed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a therapy based on RFT Clinical illustrations
